Camera Import from HD - Mark 'In' and 'Out'

On upgrade to 10.0.6 this avenue of pleasure seemed to have been denied us, but today I accidentally discovered how to do it . . .

User uploaded file

I found that if I Shift+Click where I want the 'In' point, that works perfectly. The problem was, finding how to mark the 'Out' point. If I used the Shift key, it just moved the 'In' point - untll I reached the halfway point along the clip, and then Shift+Click brought in the 'Out' point to where I clicked.

After some trial and error, I discovered that you can progressively bring in the 'Out' point by Shift+Clicking further and further to the left, until it's where you want it.

Unfortunately, it won't let me select several clips from one file at once, but at least, we're back to the original function, and the bonus is that the previous clip from a file remains highlighted with a thin white line.

Anyone else have any input on this? I'd love to hear if there's a better way to import from Firewire HD.

Thanks Tom - but unfortunately, that just doesn't work - not on my setup, anyway.

I just tried it on my dedicated G-Tech G-Raid HD and this is what I get -

Material is H.264 imported to the HD from a Canon 5D Mk iii.

Even using Media Import, I have no thumbnail view, and I cannot mark 'In' and 'Out' in the normal way, and I cannot grab more than one clip at a time from a media file. (As I describe above).
