unable to verify update iOS 6.0.1

Not very helpful - but same here. Plugging in and doing it via. iTunes will probably work but I find that whole experience annyoing.

You have to plug in the wall power socket if you want to update directly with the iPad.

BTW I just updated via. iTunes with no problem.

No, that's nothing to do with the verification issue. And no again, wi-fi does not turn off when the iPad is asleep.

Just update via. iTunes if verification fails. Just done it. Sorted.

You do not have to connect to iTunes to update iOS if you already have iOS 5.1.

Yes, you don't have to connect to iTunes post iOS5 but read the original post 🙂 It's the verification which fails (inexplicably saying verification failed - no internet connection.. even when there is a connection to the internet). Doing it via. iTunes is the solution to this problem.

If you need to connect to a power source (battery life low - download big) you get a notification telling you to do so. The Unable to verify update error is a bug which can only be resolved by lots of retrying and finger-crossing OR doing it via. iTunes hassle-free.

Yes, you can update through iTunes but that is not the question.

Where do you think the problem is then "no internet connection".

BECAUSE Wi-Fi is OFF, got it now and it needs verification from the APPLE SERVER! (Hint: Wi-Fi again.)

Just update mine directly, no finger crossed or praying needed. Less than 15 minutes.

I'll say it again: Read the original post. I am in fact connected.

I've had this issue and was connected to my home Wi-Fi. I questioned the connectivity so went to the App Store, emails, Safari and it was fine. So this is a bug.

I was plugged in to a power source, connected to Wi-Fi, even restarted my iPad.. and the problem didn't go away.

So I tried performing the update via. iTunes and it worked. Voilà! Problem: resolved

Hint: You're wrong. You don't need to be connected to wi-fi to get verification from Apple's server. It's a low-overhead data exchange and can be performed using your mobile data. If you've ever downloaded an App on-the-go you'll know you're wrong. You do however need to be on Wi-Fi to perform larger downloads (not verification..) - but again, Apple give you a specific notice about this - not the verification error. Plus, myself and I'm sure the original poster were connected to Wi-Fi.

You should get a notification when you plug your device in via. USB and open iTunes that a new iOS is available. Note that if you have a pin lock you'll need to unlock the device so iTunes can read it. Choose to 'Download and Install'.

If for whatever reason you don't get the notification, open up your iPad window (new iTunes has a button on the top right for connected devices - old iTunes has it listed on the left menu) and click 'Check for Update'.

Hey you guys, stop arguing about iTunes! That is a workaround. What is the root cause of the issue? I'm having the same problem. And I don't have a lightning cord with me to do the workaround anyway.

OK, it works now. Here's what I did. First, double click the home button. Then hold down an icon on the bottom row until the red "close" tags appear. Then close everything by tapping each icon. then power down the phone, and power back up. Immediately go to settings, software update. Then it worked.
