The EXS's conversion only handles Akai libraries through the S-3000 series. Once the S-5000 was released, Akai changed it's format, I believe to standard Wave files.

Chances are, you're trying to load an Akai S-5000 disk, which the EXS can't recognize.

You could probably put the CD in your drive, and the OS would see it as wave files, but you still wouldn't be able to access the actual Akai sampler instruments, that hold the key mapping, control info, etc...

You'll need to get a third party translator, like CDXtract to convert that to EXS, but that does work. I know, because I had a few of the S-5000 libraries, and CDXtract converted them effortlessly.

So.. do you know if CDXtract will look at s5000 samples and programs (mainly the programs as that's where all the work is) and translate them to EXS format?

I have my Akai programs sitting on the HD in my Akai. I programmed them and made the originating samples so they are not on an Akai CDRom. I have tried messing with disk imaging of Akai CDRoms to try and fool EXS into importing my programs and samples but to no avail.

Although it is easy getting the samples and programs onto my Mac, I can't find a way to import the programs. The thought of re-doing all the splits and ADSR's etc is not appealing at all....

So do you think CDXtract could be the answer?

CDXtract will indeed convert S5000 CD Roms to EXS instruments.

What I'm not 100 percent certain of, is if CDXtract will see a hard drive, as opposed to looking for the CD.

Actually, looking on their website right now, in the FAQ section, it says that CDXtract can read from most IDE, SCSI, and USB drives, so that appears to be a yes.

You could always contact them directly to be sure.
