I dropped my iPad and the sound doesn't work. Can it be repaired?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1

You've tried a reset to see if that fixes it ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.


If that doesn't fix it then you could try restoring to your last backup.


Otherwise, accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty, unless you have AppleCare+ in the US which covers two cases of damage for an excess of (I think) $49. If you don't have AppleCare+ then in the US the cost of repair (i.e. replacement) for the iPad 2 is (from here) $249

Note that the Apple store will replace the iPad if you decide you want to pay that amount - so you should copy any purchases off it to your computer's iTunes first (File > Transfer Purchases), and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You should then be able to restore that backup onto the replacement
