Double Click the Home Button Crap

iPhone4 w latest iOS:

Double clicking the button on the bottom of the iPhone gets me ANY of three different screens:

Active Apps

Keyboard

Home

It's driving me kookoo. Is there a way to do a click and get running apps bar ONLY?

Or is there some other way to set up the Running apps bar alone in one maneuver?

iPhone 4, iOS 6, 14 gig capacity

No. There is only one action. for a double click.

A double click gets you the recently used apps tray.

If it doesn't, Restore the iPhone.

If this does not fix it, take it to a Genius Bar at an Apple Store or contact Apple support here -> https://expresslane.apple.com/Issues.action

If you see the Keyboard, that is the Spotlight search, which is a swipe to the right on the Home screen.

Ok, RESTORED the iPhone4 completely, not from a backup. Spent all evening getting everything back on. Guess what, the stupid Double Click still gives me the stupid keyboard, or the stupid Home screen, or the Active Apps.

Nothing has changed except wasting an evening.

This is another Apple fiasco, like their MAPS. If I want a window to show up there ought to be ONE move for it to show. I''ve been an an Apple fan since 89 but I am GD tired of this Double Click Crap.

Perhaps your phone is faulty and not registering the home button properly.

Compare the symptoms you experience with what happens with a single tap in various circumstances:

  1. Running an app selected from a folder not on the home page.
  2. Tap home closes app, reveals folder
  3. Tap home closes folder
  4. Tap home switches to home page
  5. Tap home switches to Spotlight search page (keyboard pops up)
  6. Tap home switches to home page (back to 4) etc...

Now for me, and most other users, a double tap of the home button in any of the states above serves to opens the recently used apps bar which is what you want. From what you've said it appears you are often seeing thecorrect single tap action rather than the double tap action you want.

I'm sure you're perfectly capable of tapping the button quickly enough, it's similar to double-clicking a mouse, so the most likely explanation for the issue would be a hardware problem. To the best of my knowledge there are no software options to change the behaviour and, if there were, restoring the device as you have done should have resolved things.

Nothing wasted at all. You have narrowed it down to one of two problems.

  1. You don't know how to double click a button.
  2. You need to send it in for repair/replacement.

??? What "fiasco" are you referring to?

Doubtful you've ever had anything to do with Apple until the last month or two.

And don't know why you're tired of anything. It's a hardware/PEBCAK problem so sort it out.

Oh, yea, why the heck tell me about swipes, when I get the keyboard with double clicking, why do I need that info.

Since you obviously don't know how it is supposed to work, I am simply explaining it to you so you'll understand (though we see that didn't happen).
