Can I run Final Cut Server with Java 7

This worked for me, too. I did need to reinstall the OS on one machine, probably because I had corrupted something in my other semi-random attempts to fix the problem before we knew the cause.

Hmmm... is anyone now getting an error that they are missing quicktime for java?

Is anyone else still having Java problems? I keep reading that Apple has released the block but I still don't seem to be running Java despite having updated to the latest version released this week. When I run

more /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist

it tells me my Safe Download list was last updated last Thursday, which seems to tell me that Java is still blocked on my computer. Do we know if Apple has actually released the block yet?

Apple released the block, but since then Oracle released a new version of Java, so the latest version which is Java 7 Update 13 is not being blocked by Apple because it met the minimum version requirement.

To verify your Java is working click on this link: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp. If it says inactive plugin then click on the word inactive plugin to activate it. If it's working properly you will see a spinning Java cup with your Java version listed and a message that confirms that it's working.

I just ran an internet recovery of Mountain Lion and updated Java to 7u13. All my other Java software is working (things like Cyberduck) and I see the spinning java cup at that link but still no Final Cut Server- even after re-downloading it fresh. I get the "this application would liek to use an old version of java" message and when I do run with the latest version the FCSvr Icon pops up in my dock but nothing else happens.

I really do appreciate everyone's help- it's looking like this might be something unique to my machine.

I just got off the phone with APPLE. After being tossed around from one tech person to the next I finally was talking to a senior technician for the video products. Obviously telling him that this situation is unacceptable because our entire organisations b-roll is on our FCS and PR departments are unable to pull files etc. He gave me the following link to solve the problem.

You have to have the latest Java 7. So either you download it or if you already downloaded it go to Java in System Prefrences and then click the UPDATE button to check for any further updates. I also went into the security tap and lowered security to medium (not sure if that step was necessary) and also went into Advanced tap and set JNLP File/MIME Associations to ALWAYS ALLOW (not sure if this step was necessary either).

Also, ensure you have the Apple JAVA update that you find through updates in the AppStore. Its the 2013 v.1.

I successfully got FCS working again through this method on two Mountain Lion Macs of which one already had the "hacked" FCS client that was provided in this discussion earlier by someone and the other MLion Mac had a clean FCS Client installation from the server. The steps also worked fine on a Lion OS Mac.

Im now going to try the setup as set out by Apple in the link they gave me for the 10.6.8 Server OS which is running FCS to see if the client comes back on it too.
