Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

I just upgraded to iTunes 11 and noticed that iTunes DJ is missing from the Sidebar as well as from the dropdown menu. I used this feature often at my house for parties so iPhone users could have fun suggesting music.

What happened to this feature? Is it still there, but hidden?

It took me about 5 minutes also to learn that I didn't like it. I want a playlist that will automatically select music and play it, that I can see the last 100 songs that I played, and that I can also manually add to if I want I like being able to have multiple windows open at once. After playing with it for about 5 minutes I downgraded and restored my old library for iTunes 10. Told Apple Update to ignore the update. I do not find the interface user friendly. I found it very cumbersome at best.

So glad I didn't upgrade...

itunes DJ (RIP) - most used feature for me on my most used app.

I always wait to see the fallout of new versions and also wait for bug fixes etc. Patience is a virtue.

Apple had best bring itunes DJ back or this thread may last forever 😕

A lesson learned for me.

Also the most used feature and most used music app when I'm home.

I'm using the newest version....but my BFF (iTunes DJ) is gone. Come back BFF!!! 😢

My use of iTunes is excessively simple. I have twelve days worth of music. I'm not kidding: if it played each song in sequence, it would take 12 days to get through everything. Hey, Vivaldi wrote 400+ concerti and Mozart wrote a **** of a lot of symphonies. Throw in Beethoven, Tchaikovski, Dvorak, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Uakti... and you get a LOT of music.

I don't use playlists or any other snazzy stuff. The one feature I use is the random shuffle that biases in favor of star ratings. This is important to me, and it now appears that this feature is gone. Should I wait in the hope that Apple will fix it, or do you think I should just go back to the previous version?

If you go to Control -> Turn Shuffle On, then select one of the options - by song for example, and then press play. The tracks will be played randomly.

The Up Next feature will display the next tracks selected, and you can move them around or delete them. To add a track to the list you just hover over a track and then click on the arrow that appears.

At the moment I'm missing my iTunes DJ. I can work with the new method, but with Coverflow missing as well, this is really taking away from my playing pleasure.

Well, I certainly had my fingers burned on the score of diving in too soon and have had to reverse it, which has been a pain, but great to have D.J. back.

What were Apple thinking about?

Why "fix," what aint broke?

In the past I've updated iTunes every time it was offered and have never had cause for complaint.

In future I'll do a bit of reading on the web each time a new version comes out and unless D.J. in some form reappears I'll not be updating again, full stop.

Had I looked on the net re "11," I'd've seen a number of very specific warnings posted about D.J.

Lesson learned!

I can't live with out it so I went back to 10.7. To me they did away with a very imporatant function of iTunes.... personally the whole interface is bad.

It is disturbing that Apple can be so out of touch with its users. A couple of focus groups wouldn't have hurt.

I participate in another forum....and that forum RedLynx....they do a wonderful job at listening to their forum people. I hope Apple takes a few notes and shows that they aren't too big to listen to the consumers. It will only improve their reputation and their sales numbers.

Haven't read the whole thread, so excuse-me if I repeat something (and for the approximate translation. My itunes is in French!)

To replace DJ (big big loss), I created a new smart playlist with these criteria:

- Playlist draws from "Music"

- "Last time played" "is not in the last" "1" "last days" (so to force constant renewal)

- Limit to "25" elements with "random selection"

- Choose only checked elements

- Real time update

You can add your own elements from the other lists, but you won't be able to move their order and see the previous ones. But that's as close as I could get.
