Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

I just upgraded to iTunes 11 and noticed that iTunes DJ is missing from the Sidebar as well as from the dropdown menu. I used this feature often at my house for parties so iPhone users could have fun suggesting music.

What happened to this feature? Is it still there, but hidden?

@ujjwalt.

D.J. throws up a set of user defined totally random songs, which can then be dragged/sent to other playlists, which is why I love it so much as it provides me with a constant prompt for ideas for "new," songs to add to playlists I create myself.

All you have to do is hit the "refresh," button in order to instantly view say, 15 different songs and if you don't like them, hit the "refresh," again, for another 15.

I'm not sure that hitting the "shuffle," option on 11 allows that?

If it does, I'd be interested to find out

Cheers.

As I predicted I already probably have a solution to this and I have Although I mostly rely on Native Onstrument software for interface of music files and mixing deck, i donloaded an app off the app store for beach bbq style remote mixing called 'djay' by algoriddim and it has a feature called 'party shuffle' alas you are not able to load a particular playlist but it does load your enture music library and proceeds with its Automix function to mix a randomised selection of music which it can beatmix too.

Lookign like rather than gobbling up developers ideas in releases iTunes is not handing opportuntities to anyone with coding skills and an account on the app store.. I am quite certain a iTunes alike app with beat mix dj shuffle of selected playlists is not that far away...

Subtle correction.... 'djay' does play specific playlists, you need only select the playlist you want to use for automix to load only those songs... you can then leave it alone or intervene and slip songs in from the queue before they hit the autoselect slot at the top of the list,

No sign of coverflow but watching the decks spinning as the music plays is probably almost as good a diversion and something I will be seeing more of now iTunes DJ went AWOL

It's not gone anywhere. Just go to your songs and switch on the shuffle and hit play. The upcoming songs are there in the list and you can change their order or delete them. Isn't that all iTunes DJ did?

To answer your question NO that isn't all of iTunes DJ does in 10.7.

Is far as I am concerned it is as the functionality of this is not the same. It isn't the same thing as iTunes DJ. I have even had it stop playing which didn't happen with iTunes DJ. Songs are not random unless you setup fancy lists no so with iTunes DJ I changed list so that I could rate some songs and iTunes stopped playing as it wanted to play for the current list. With iTunes DJ, I could see what was just played With 10.7, I could have different windows open and be Editing the playlist is very cumbersome at best. The whole interface is just about as user unfriendly as anything I have encountered. With new upgrades to software one would expect to see new and/or improved functionality and this isn't the case with version 11.

@ujjwalt No, this isn't all iTunes DJ / Party Shuffle did.

I can't drag songs *from* up next.

I can't see recently played songs.

I can't see full track information (rating, number of plays, last played).

I can't switch out, play a track or another playlist (or genius), and come back where I left off.

And to get the fraction of functionality that I'm used to, I have to mess around with multiple windows open, can't just minimize iTunes and open it up when I want.

I spend almost all my times in iTunes using iTunes DJ. Not upgrading iTunes until they bring it back. If they don't, I'll start looking for an alternative... even if it means building Amarok from source.

I'm very happy to have upgraded as well. But what a pain. I've had no prompts to upgrade, but if or when I do receive them, I'd make sure to respond to Apple each time letting them know how unhappy I am about the DJ take-away and request in no uncertain terms that they give it back.

Meanwhile, you all might enjoy a recent blog of mine about moving on from Apple, called "Apple Giveth And Apple Taketh Away."

Apple seems to be making more of these kind of unilateral descisions effecting the lives of people they love or at least who love Apple. Whatever happened to the backwards compatibility Apple used to be known for.

I want my iTunes DJ back and Apple better start going for counselling or I can see this relationship starting to hit the rocks!

I loved that function, too.

You could have a seperate window opened with only the playlist of Itunes DJ. It was clear for everybody on the party which songs come next. The up next window is too small...

You could select the forthcoming song and hit and hold backspace while title by title got removed from the list until you see some track coming up you want to listen next. Now with up next you have to select the next title, delete it, click with the mouse on the upnext because your selection is gone... no way to delete many songs from that list by holding backspace. (ok, you can hold shift und arrow down to select more songs, but only in one direction, de-selecting songs once selected is not possible)

I don´t understand why Apple did no survey on that... if they did i wonder why within such a short time so many people regret the decision to remove this feature...

For me there´s unfo no other chance than to stick to the previous version and not update to iTunes 11.

Sorry apple...
