Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

it's not just the iTunes DJ that is a big miss, what about the beautiful coverflow in iTunes DJ.

they said that they build iTunes 11 from scratch to make it faster etc. bummer.

all our machines got faster and better during the years, with fast processors, alot of HD space, Retina Displays for beautiful pictures. now it looks like they made a iTunes version that can run on a pentium I with 650k, pffff.

I'm glad i haven't updated to iTunes 11 yet on my "music" Mac, but only took it for a test drive on a old Windows PC.

But there is a history: use the button "History" on top of the mini player window.

I'm not pleased too with this new version but there's is a lot in it some people are complaining about it is missing.

Explore the new miniplayer window with its "next to" functions and get familiarized with it.

Maybe it is not that bad after all.

Yes, there is a history, but it's now a button on another window. Yes, there is a randomizer, but it only randomizes albums, not songs. I cannot change playlists without interrrupting the currently palying song. In what universe is this simpler?

Here is what I did to replace itunes DJ:

Created new smart playlist

check match rule to "dated added" "is after" "1/1/1970" (or any date long ago)

check box, limit to "20000" items, selected by "random" (or any number representing the approx size of your collection)

named the playlist Random. You can name it "itunes DJ" if you really want to keep the old experience 🙂

All done. is working so far. u can see the upcoming in up next, ctrl-shift-u

my media buttons on my logitech keyboard also still work (that was an annoying thing that broke in a point release a while ago)

havent seen a way to make that window persist, but it does replace itunes DJ!

Binford2k is correct, the Up Next feature has the same function as iTunes DJ, even tho it's appearance is slightly different. I like iTunes DJ more, but will have to get used to Up Next.

Thjanks sazqatch. However, I still have the same problem about it randomizing albums, not songs. I get the whole of one album followed by the next whole album, etc.

Either I'm doing something wrong here or I fail to see how Up Next has anything like iTunes DJ. I see the whole of the album that's playing followed by part of another album (depending on size). I can move those songs around but not any others.

Click Control-->Shuffle-->By Song.

Try using the MiniPlayer, it gives you a list of the upcoming songs.

I think the main point with the Up Next feature is you have to actually click on a song first to get it started.

I have tried control-clicking all over the main window and all over the mini-player and cannot find the shuffle option.

On a brighter note, I have found that -opt-s brings back the sidebar.

OK, finally found the shuffle, right in front of my eyes. So many things have moved off the menus that I wasn't even looking there.

Go to SONGS, click on a song, any song, then Control-->Shuffle-->By Song. It will shuffle through your entire Music library and if you open up the MiniPlayer, it will give you a list of about the next 20 songs.

BUT I would MUCH rather use iTunes DJ aka SHUFFLE!! I say it all the time, Apple makes great products and software but they always screw something up like taking away something that worked and that people LOVED. Why? Because they can, I guess.
