Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

I just upgraded to iTunes 11 and noticed that iTunes DJ is missing from the Sidebar as well as from the dropdown menu. I used this feature often at my house for parties so iPhone users could have fun suggesting music.

What happened to this feature? Is it still there, but hidden?

Drewmunn,

Thanks for the tip but i meant the album artwork window on the bottom left is gone (even if you change the view to sidebar view)

Now we are stuck with a tiny thumbnail in the now playing bar and it *****.

Double clicking opens a big box view and it *****.

Cover flow is gone and worst of all, after updating your library, yu cant go back to itunes 10

- no itunes dj

- no guests can request songs like before via remote app

- in the new grid view, clicking on next song does not go to your next song in your playlist.

These reasons make it absolutely suck!

I agree with most of you, DJ was a great way to play music. And I too used it almost exclusively when playing music.

I really hope it comes back.

I have never really used the voting system on the remote app, but I just found out that I cannot rate the songs from the remote app anymore - almost as bad as dj being removed in my oppinion.

Apple, what the **** are you doing?

iTunes Dj was one of the most amazing things that I discoverded late this summer.

I bought with my girlfriend an old Jukebox. We modded it with an apple tv inside connected to the original Jukebox's speaker system and an LCD monitor installed in front replacing original electronics, glass and cd covers.

With our iMac and Apple Tv connected in wifi and iTunes 10 with Dj feature enabled airplaying to Apple Tv inside the Jukebox, what a futuristic 2012 setup!

Placed the Jukebox in the garden (the garden is covered by home's wifi 5 ghz timecapsule) and partying with our friends, the ability to let them vote with Remote app was the most killing feature. Our friends were amazed by the possibility to vote their own songs and see cover art in the Jukebox. And I was amazed that they had a limited access preventing volume modification or music flow stop or playlist abuse.

Finally I could have fun with my friends without spending all time behind the dj console nor no one could say that music was ugly. Yes, the music was community selected.

So I expected a fantastic upgrade (iTunes 11???) that would allow voting even from non IOS devices, with a web interface or something like that, I was wondering that some bar could get that setup if not only IOS orinted, but.. but.. but..

iTunes Dj feature have been removed.

Really?

Oh man..

Is Tim Cook downgrading all fantastic Apple's software to Nokia standard? (Utility Airport, iTunes, etc..)

If Apple's "Up next" is removing bests features with the illusion of simplicity, I will go in the future into a more open standard.

Best,

Giovanni.

my only solution is create a smart playlist. for "match the following rule:" choose "year" and "is in the range" of 1900 to 9999. check live updating. now at the top of playlist you will see the "random" or "shuffle" button. this is the only solution i could come up with. yes, loved itunes DJ too. also in top info window to the right is a view button that can show your "next up coming songs" but not whats already played.

hope this helps. let me know. thx

There is a kind of iTunes DJ:

- select the playlist you want the dj to choose from randomly

- clikc next to the title on the shuffle symbol

- iTunes will send all the songs randomly to the playlist

- You can open the playlist window permanently with apple-alt-3 (or Window-Miniplayer)

- You can rearrange-delete-add songs very easily

- From any song in any playlist you can show the shortcut menu and, exactly like before, choose "Play Next" or "Add to"

I think this has almost the same funtionality

But I do miss :

- The artwork left corner

- The list view of albums with art work always shown

Same concerns as those I see posted. I was a daily DJ user, both at home and work, and really appreciated the ability to see both what was recently played and what was coming up. There were times that I'd catch a song in the background while working on something else that caught my attention, something a bit more obscure that I may have downloaded or ripped from a CD but with which I wasn't overly familiar. I'd be able to look back even ten songs and find the info. Reminded me of the early days of FM radio where we'd wait through a set of songs to hear who had been recently played when the DJ came on and read off the set list, identifying artist, song and maybe album.

As a long-time user, I hope Apple rethinks this change and gives us back our DJ.
