I am running Windows 8, but the solution should be the same. If you added your Airplay capable equipment after you upgraded your Itunes to Ver 11, if you did not have any Airplay capable equipment tobein with, Itunes will not pick up an Airplay Device, so it will not have the switch to select

Airplay devices.

Solution: Uninstall Itunes, Re-download and Install Itunes. When you start up Itunes, this time you will see that switch to

select your device. Location of the switch the Top Left window of Itunes beside the Volume control.

Once I did this, It picked up all my Airplay devices, I have 2. I ran a test for both device chose, one, test and choose the second device, test. All working. I have given this solution to many of my friends who had the same problem and theirs are working now too.

This is a question for anyone who might know the answer to this question

I cannot play videos through Itunes using Airplay, Using I using Itunes

Hello All,

Thank you for the great advice and possible solutions. I'm hoping it will also fix my same/similar issue with ATV. But any other troubleshooting advice would also be greatly appreciated.

I have a Windows 7 PC, iTunes v.11 and only bought my ATV 2 weeks ago, so assuming the latest version. I am also using a wi-fi extender to reach the ATV from one end of the house (computer & modem) to the other end (TV).

For the first week, everything was working well expect that my movie was playing on both, my computer and Apple TV at the same time. When asking the Apple Store staff on how I can play music/movies via iTunes on my computer independently to playing music/movies on my TV via the Apple TV remote control device, I was informed to change the setting on the Airplay icon from my iTunes library on my computer.

The second I removed the tick for Apple TV from the icon in the iTunes library, the icon disappeared and the green computer option on the Apple TV keeps telling me to connect to Home Sharing. This seems strange since my music still plays through the music option on the ATV.

After 3 hours on the phone with Apple support, we weren't able to solve the problem. I was asked to completely shut down everything one by one and power them all back up (modem, router, extender, computer, ATV, etc.,) also disable/re-enable firewalls and Microsoft anti-virus software, uninstall/reinstall iTunes.

We know that videos or music stored on my iPad can be played through the ATV, but I cannot stream videos from my iTunes library to ATV.

Any additional information will help. I don't really want to spend $1000s to change my PC to Mac just to get the $100 ATV to work. I will retry all the suggestions again but anything new you can add will be appreciated.

Hello Again,

I have checked Windows for upgrades and installed, downloaded iTunes again and did a restart to my Windows 7 PC while unplugging all the connections to my router and modem. Then reconnected everything, started everything up again and opened iTunes.

The airplay icon now appears again and I can stream movies to my TV via ATV and the remote control provided. I cannot drag and drop movies/music from my desktop folder to my iTunes library now, but I can still 'File, Add Files, Browse, Select, Save' to overcome this minor issue.

Hope this helps others too.

I'm running into this exact same problem. Rebooting AppleTV and MBA didn't work. I can AirPlay mirror the MBA just fine, and I can AirPlay with both an iPad 2 and iPad mini in my house, and two iPhone 4s'. The only issue I'm running into is with iTunes 11 on my MBA. I've tried both with Single and Multiple speaker outputs checked, with no luck. Even my Windows 7 PC can AirPlay iTunes to my AppleTV with no problems.
