Itunes 11 freezes after I open it. Help please?

I'm sorry I may be missing something here. If Windows Firewall is turned off, that means no traffic should be restricted. Me adding a port exception in the firewall is equivalent to not having a firewall turned on to begin with, correct?

After letting mine sit for a while, it started working. It was about 30 minutes 😐

its been awhile since i have had to TS windows firewall issues - but i once had an issue with windows firewall where it was still blocking a specific application even when off until i went in and manually configure it for that 1 application

but if you see an exception it means that windows firewall is allowing 1 item through - so it may be allowing incoming internet traffic but it is blocking outgoing (or vice versa)

Oh, haha. Yeah. I'm not sure what the deal is here man. Seems like a lot of people are experiencing these issues too. Blah.

I was having the same issue with iTunes 11 crashing on startup with Windows 8 64bit. I solved the issue by moving my entire library including the library files to a local hard drive. I was previously trying to access a mapped NAS directory on my Synology 1511+ and it appears that was causing he hang up. This leads me to believe the issue lies within a port forwarding rule needing to be set to access network resources or a bug with accessing remote storage (my NAS is on my LAN). I'm not sure if any of you were accessing your media via an external HDD or NAS but the more we can narrow the issue down based on commonalities, the more likely we'll find the root of the issue. Let me know if this helps anyone.

Here are my system specs for comparison of your setup when I had the issue:

Core i7 2600K OC@4.5GHz

16GB DDR3

OCZ Vertex 3 240GB

Nvidia GeForce GTX 580

Synology 1511+ 10TB NAS (This is where my iTunes library resided when I had the problem.)

I have the same issue with Windows 7 64bit and itunes library on network drive (Synology DS411+II). Opening library results in complete freeze. (reboot required)

That's kind of what I expected. Is anyone else having trouble with similar setups? I would really be interested in seeing whether or not an external hard drive presents the same issues.

@mstone333: Did you move your library and have any success? That fixed my problem for now.

i have mine on an ext hdd using USB 3.0 and have zero issues

Mine is on my Netdisk NDAS drive. I left iTunes open for a half hour, and it is working.

Unfortunately my 2 iPhones and 2 iPads do not show up on the right of the screen.

I plug them in, and windows sees them, but ITunes dies not

i just "upgraded" and itunes freezes when i try to search. never had any troubs b/4. any thoughts?

ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE WITH ITUNES 11 FREEZING OR NOT OPENING. PLEASE DOWNLOAD INSTALLER AND REPAIR IT. SHOULD WORK FINE AFTER 🙂

Mine is now working on my NDAS Netdisk. It is also synching my devices. I did download installer to desktop and repaired the original install

Mine also seems to be working much better after downloading installer and repairing.

could it be a load of people upgraded yesterday, flooding the server which the app connects to, now there's less traffic??? Mine is faster, but all my music has been renamed and rearranged by the program.

What installer? Link plz.

I was on the verge of uninstalling and looking for a different program but seeing as you're all having trouble I'll give it a little longer. Just why these companies have to change things that work fine is beyond me. And then they blame our computers/anti-virus/firewalls/day of the week/weather etc.
