iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

It still baffles me that Apple had no reason to do this. They may be a money-making machine, but how does taking away the covers make them money? They didn't replace the space with advertisement, so what exactly are they gaining from this? What was going through their minds when they came up with this?

I would be very interested to hear someone from Apple explaining this. They won't, because they don't have a reason. Which just boggles my mind.

To all, If you have a time machine back up you can revert to a your previous version. Make sure to import your whole itunes folder. I travel and downloaded this update and agree the loss of artworkin the list view and the manner in which searching for and playing songs is a deal breaker for me. As soon as I get home i will restore my original itunes version and complete library. About 15 minutes and I will be done. Bad, bad, bad move Apple. After this I no longer trust you are making the correct decision on your appliction software. I will no longer download them unless they are vetted for over a year. You broke my trust. Security is one issue, this is quite another.

My theory is that Apple thinks that the Artists view replaces our preferred song list with album art preview on the side. I don't mind the little box in the lower left corner being gone but I DO mind the art being gone that was combined with the song list mode and here is why.

In the new iTunes 11 Artists view mode there are effectively no sort options. The way I prefer to view my library is Song list mode with album art next to the Artist as it was in 10. I particularly liked that I could sort by Artist, THEN by Album release year. As far as I can tell there is no way to do that let alone simultaneously see the album artwork.

Two steps forward, one step back.

Sigh.

😟

Exactly! It's ridiculous, I use shuffle mode most of the time and only the "track" list jumps to the currently playing song.... how stupid is that! I loved the way Cover flow would shuffle, much like an oldie jukebox - probably some whiz-kid programmer that hasn't even seen a jukebox decided that cover flow was no longer useful.

Those of us old enough to have owned record (and later CD) collections, are used to just flipping through our records until we found something not played in a while. Cover Flow was the digital equivalent of that feeling!

Yeah, it was eye candy ('bling' to you kids), but I loved it...

Great work, Apple.

I tried to restore from Time Machine and the OS refused it, which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of TM.

So I used Get Info to change permissions on iTunes so I could trash it, after which I restored 10.7 and my iTunes folder, but guess what?

Both my iPod and iPad had to be restored because iTunes threw an error on startup (-42408), which meant I couldn't restore my apps, because I couldn't access the iTunes Store.

I feel like I'm back using Windows again. 😠

"It Just Works"? Bull ****.

Update: no way to resolve the errors, I was forced to download iTunes 11 and reinstall.

This is a real desaster!

CoverFlow was the only really sexy thing about iTunes - now this looks like Winamp...

The guy who removed CoverFlow should be fired!

Steve Jobs was always trying to give Appleproducts something sexy, something beautiful and NOT remove it!

Give it back its sexy look, and give it back a Sidebar - the nagivation is awful, i dont want to click through 3 buttons just to switch between my devices and the playlist on my mac!

10.000 people already found this thread, looking for the same thing: CoverFlow!

I'm NOT willing to support this - i will use a different Mediaplayer until Coverflow is back!

I will also delay my order for the new iMac! This is not the Apple that i like.

This is ridiculous! I have spent years trying to categorize my music and still have hundreds left to catalog. Now this feature is taken away. Unbelieveable how Apple has treated their loyal customers over the years and have limited their activity like children. The issue I have is that all the information I had on notes, album covers and history of the album are now gone within seconds. Very disappointed in Apple.
