…without further ado,
HERE IS HOW TO VIEW ARTWORK FOR MUSIC THAT ISN'T CURRENTLY PLAYING!
Use the Song view to browse, just like itunes 10, when you want to peak at the artwork, click the album view at the top. You'll see your currently selected artwork, zoomed large in the main area. THE NEW ALBUM VIEW IS THE REPLACEMENT FOR THE SIDEBAR ARTWORK PREWIEW…
I’m curious- did it occur to you that it might be presumptuous to arrive at a long thread, and without reading it, proclaim in huge all-caps that you have the answer — or that you “understand” why the feature was removed?
Geez.
And most people who have looked at this issue for more than 5 minutes will be aware that iTunes 11 remembers the track when you mouse around to switch between Songs view & Album view.
I’M SORRY, BUT YOU HAVEN’T SOLVED THIS!
A better partial workaround (discussed long ago) is to do a Command-I to show the info window w/cover art pane. Unlike your suggestion, this can be done from the keyboard, and the cover art is larger than Album view images. With the “match colors” option active, you’ll see a somewhat larger image at right, although it’s faded in a way that often negates the size.
NONE of this is remotely as useful as being able to click around and reveal cover art in real time. Or being able to arrow through a list and see cover art as you go. Or check a list of tracks you’re working on for covert art.
And it’s still IMPOSSIBLE to see full-size art- unless the track is currently playing (?!?). Cover art management is horrible, compared to iTunes 10.
It’s ironic that iTunes 11’s new (and cool) “Up Next” feature multiplies the value of being able to click around & see cover art, as you decide what to add to the queue. And a Retina iPad makes high-res cover art look really fantastic. But iTunes 11 makes it much, much harder to add/manage such art. Go figure.
