iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

Total pants. I love the album cover browser, and the bottom left album art view, I am serious about my album art, and every track in my library has it, why? because I, like many millions of others like to browse through my albums and collection by flicking through the album covers. You've really messed this up Apple. Sort it out. Bring back the album browser and the mini-art down in the bottom left. Really? Seriously? you've taken one step forwards and four steps back. I'm switching back to Media Player for now until you sort out this trash. Very very dissapointed!

The disappearance of the covers in the "songs" view (as the "genres" view does) and the disappearance of the cover preview (by click) in the bottom of the sidebar is a true disaster for previewing albums, especially for those who have a big library. I don't understand the purpose of those suppression.

In addition, the new font and the lack of separation between tracks and/or albums (background all white) make the readability impossible.

Adding my voice here to this issue. Im very surprised at this. Whilst its a lovely looking new version, removing the cover art preview pane is at varience with everything digital music represents.

Who in their right mind in Apple decided its appropriate to have users listen to music looking at a spreadsheet?

First it was Youtube on iOS6, (which bizarly, but thankfully they left on Apple TV) then Maps on iOS6.

Apple please stop taking things back. Its offensive.

It would be interesting to know what's going on at Apple right now. Do they read the comments here? Do they care? Or do they just regard us as a bunch of stupid whiners?

In each large organisation I have worked so far, one thing was always present: institutionalized stupidity borne out of ignorance and arrogance. I believe Apple has joined the club.

It is mindboggling that Apple is the richest company on the planet, they have access to the best engineers, yet they are unable to deliver a product that works seamlessly and wows every user who relies on it. Quite to the contrary...

And let's face it, iTunes has been a dog for years (that has just turned into a giant mastiff). There are so many features that have always been missing, like automatic sample rate switching, FLAC support, WAV cover art support, advanced tagging for classical music, etc. And if you look at a company like Pure Music, you can see what iTunes could actually all be about - a professional playback system rather than an incomplete inconvenience. http://www.channld.com/puremusic/

The old Steve mantra that they care about music is ********. If they cared, we would have had a totally different iTunes experience for years. I hope you get the cue, Mr. Cue!

LeoC86, not only was there a cover beside each album separating them visually for us, there were lines separating each album. The best was to "always show artwork" so that even with only a few tracks to an album there was a clear separation. This is how I used iTunes as well. Though it is important to note that there is a lot here that people really do like, myself included.

I think the big problem between Apple and us is that they don't think we are "Album centric" they think we are "Artist centric". So in Artist view, there are clear pictures and separations that include all the tracks in one overview.

All my music is ripped from my own CDs and I meticulously scan and add artwork myself. As much as they want us to be in the 'store' the whole time we are using iTunes, I resist with every fibre of my being!

There should be a separate player (iTunes Pro) that we can pay for and have many more database options. And a separate store with perhaps optional links between the two that we can turn off.

Thank God my family has two laptops! I downloaded itunes 11 on my wife's pc and saw the cover art issue right away - it's the first thing my brain registered: that when you select a track from a list there is no cover art anywhere unless you choose to play a track. Not a good idea. Apple please change it back.

I understand the excitement you have to integrate with the cloud but some of us have spent years working on our libraries: sorting, scanning hi-res images, playlisting, play counting, genre labelling, ...it is a problem for those of us who use it differently than your average casual listener who never even buys music and just listens to spotify and other streaming services - yes probably your target audience. Many of us have the collector's mentality and even though it's a jpeg representation of something and not an actual album sleeve in 12" x 12" - IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US!!!

Thankfully I don't need to upgrade my pc with a library of 100K tracks. I am sticking with itunes 10 until some attention is paid to this sadly neglected issue.

i agree. its almost too simple. there isnt any customisation for us folks who like to have control over how things look.

its almost like its apple's way or no way at all.

i HATE the fact that the album artwork has disappeared from the list/album view and that you can view your albums in a list, only on the grid!!

SORT IT OUT APPLE.... we ARE'NT HAPPY!!!!
