iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

The disadvantages are multi:

1) many users count on seeing the artwork for selected titles much like when you had a record collection you didn't just grab any record b&d assume it was the one you were looking for it! You made the visual connection to the music. Now if you were to choose one of many versions of Bob Dylan's blowin in the wind you would probably like to see the cover before you start playing it !!

2) this is EXTREMELY important for DJ's.

3) it is also crucial for those of us who scan in hi-res images. Seeing them the size of a pinhead is disheartening. And even the blow up looks weird with its shadow. Not crisp. Plus that's an extra click :-(

Bravo!!! You've stated this much better and much more concisely than I could have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with what you say ENTIRELY here, and would upvote it 1 million times if I could!

Adding multiple images is now a NIGHTMARE for those of us adding lots of music, or in updating our older tracks. You have to now do them all one by one!!! You used to be able to select multiple tracks and do it by dragging an image to the album artwork in the lower left hand corner.

Also, seeing the secondary images is difficult like you said as well. It's just dumb. A few versions ago, there was actually an arrow at the top left and right of the album artwork at the bottom left of the screen. With that you were able to cycle through the different images you had for each track, and could click to enlarge the one you wanted to see. That was HUGELY helpful, and very wonderful. GONE!!!

If they just brought this one thing back, I'm actually pretty happy with this update...

Vidiat, you CAN add artwork to an entire album at once. In list view you can't see it ⚠ or watch it happen, but you can add it and then change views to look at it.

Group select all the tracks of an album for which you wish to add artwork. Get Info. There is not an Artwork tab in a group selection, but there IS an Artwork box in tab 2. You can drop or paste album art into this box on the lower right. You will see messages showing you that each track is taking on the graphic.

Understood. Thanks. For those of us with wax (record collections), we're used to images, and good quality ones. Organizing the music and being able to access the images easily is big for many reasons.

We can argue that there are many reasons for why we'd want this, but the question I have is why take it off on Apple's part? What'd they gain from it? Just doesn't make sense. I guess it fits in with the simplicity model.

Just bring this back and many of us are content. Just the option of it. Those that don't want it, can leave it off.

I did that fairly rarely- still- sad to hear it's gone. What kills me is having no idea what the album art situation is, just by clicking around on tracks. It was so seamless/easy with prior versions!

I'm starting to get it. I did exactly what you described for that bootleg album shown in a previous post. I dragged it in once for all the songs. Now, I would have to add it one by one. Yes, that's a drag.
