iTunes 11: Artist Grid View?

Hi! 11 is interesting, but I can't seem to find any way to put the artists into grid view. That's how I've always preferred my music, scrolling through the list of artists on the side is a little annoying as it's a pretty long list. If the ARTIST screen could be done the same way the ALBUM screen is, it would be pretty awesome. Am I just missing something, or is that not possible?

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here.

Unlike most of my (Spotify using) friends, I've stuck with iTunes and have found it to suit my needs well. That's why I'm absolutely outraged that the grid view in 'Artists' has been removed. I have almost 2000 albums and just can't scan them properly using the left hand list.

If Apple doesn't reinstate grid view in 'Artist' soon, they will lose me as an iTunes user forever.

I agree totally Oli. Since the downgrade to 11, i've been on itunes to play, organize, purchase music maybe 3 times total. I used to open the program several times a day.

It's such a disaster that i'd just rather not look at it and be reminded of what happened to my music.

I need grid view in artist, and i need to be able to resize my icons. marc

Where is the sidebar? That's what I missed most - left navigation. I have a very few options across the top, then album covers fill the entire thing. I can't find any setting to add that left pane, and can't find playlists, devices and other things that used to be there. I also kinda liked the store ads on the right, suggesting music (I know, crazy, liked ads), and that's gone too. I can't find anything and can barely function. What was I thinking by upgrading?

Do you know how I can get the side bar thing to show again?

Thanks!!

Just want to add to this in the hope it makes Apple realises how terrible what they've done is

I always used to use iTunes and have never had any problems with it that I haven't been able to fix

With that in mind I refuse to use it now because of this one feature that has been removed. I like all the other changes except the new 'Artists' tab. It would be so much better if I could change it back to grid and not have the songs/albums displayed unless I click on them and am taken to a new window, it iritates me having them on the side like that

Please change this Apple

You know, this layout is extremely similar to the Zune player layout. I thought it was everyone that copied off Apple, not the other way around? And they couldn't even copy it right...

the Zune player makes more sense to me from a user standpoint, so I'll be going back to it until this problem is resolved. If anyone who takes notes of complaints for Apple reads this, this is legitimate feedback that I'm giving, not just stirring up a fuss. This layout doesn't upset me, but as a consumer I will use the player that is the most user friendly.

I'll be checking back for updates periodically, as I have been enjoying the iTunes player for several years.

I've been using my iTunes since my first computer nine years ago. I remember the initial joy of having every song that I owned ready for me on my computer screen for viewing pleasure and organization. I haven’t looked back or even flirted anywhere else since then. Up until this week I would have considered myself a 'lifer'. That is, until this newest version was released.

In this iTunes loyalists’ mind, the lack of offering the original yet beautiful ‘grid’ view that has been so essential to our music-listening experience seems a reversal of everything that Apple once offered for its customers.

After 8 iPods, 2 Macbooks, 1 iPad, years of meticulous organization of play counts, playlists (smart and otherwise), and countless conversations trying to be persuaded to move elsewhere, I’m afraid my worst fear may be realized: with iTunes removing the grid option from it’s basic format, it may finally be time to say goodbye to my closest muical compantion, even after all these years.

I could handle when FB added the timeline, I'm ok with paid Google adverts, iTunes: feel free to push the iStore as much as humanly possible. But please, don't change what made me fall in love with you.

I miss the old you. Bring him back, or take back the ring.

Or.... You could simply hit the songs tab, then using the viewing options "sort by artist" and presto! ITunes just organized all of your music by artist and unlike older iTunes versions, the Albums are in correct order along with Tracks. Then, from view options select track number, album name, artist, plays and whatever information you would like to view while scrolling through your music. The only thing missing now from the artist grid is album artwork (boohoo, it will come soon enough in an update) and those large gaps that separated differents artists work (****, now I have to look for one more second). Overall, the album view is quite efficient and Apple had obtained a ton more album artwork to really jazz up your library! (don't believe me? select all your music then hit the "get album artwork" button 🙂). But stop complaining about the artist grid being gone and realize that it takes 5 minutes of toying with the viewing options in SONG view to achieve what your looking for.
