AirPlay over ASUS RT-N56U

I bought an Apple TV 3 today, intending to airplay stuff from the family's other Apple products; an iPad 2 and an iPhone 5. Turns out the AirPlay icon does not appear on either of the two. So obviously, they are not communicating with the Apple TV. All devices are connected on the same wireless network, via our ASUS RT-N56U router (firmware version 3.0.0.4.260). I have read online tonight about disabling the IGMP snooping, but I'm not able to find out how to do that.

So basically what I'm asking is what I can do to get this to work?

I have had problems in the past connecting to my work over VPN and also downloading/streaming contents from my Seagate NAS (uploading is no problem). I have not tried again after having updated the router firmware today. I suspect that the NAS and the AirPlay issues are related, whilst the VPN issue is something different. I have not yet tried home sharing, but I guess that too would not work.

Well, I hope someone out there can help...

Confirming that downloading the latest firmware seems to solve the issue. My router came with 3.0.0.4.374.979, upgraded to 3.0.0.4.374.5656 without changing any settings it started to work. (i.e. IGMP Snooping = Disabled, Multicast Rate = Auto)

I was having the same issue, updating the router to 3.0.0.4.374.5656 did give airplay option to my iphone, but although I am getting audio on my boxeebox I'm not getting any video. Does anyone have any ideas what I should try next?

I tried everything in this thread and many others. Was banging my head on the wall as nothing seemed to work and I didn't want to have to run cat 5. Was talking to a friend who said there was an alternative firmware for the Asus router and to give it a shot. It is called Asuswrt-Merlin found here http://www.lostrealm.ca/tower/node/79. Anyway, flashed my router with it and not only is airplay flawless my wife gets more consistent performance and connectivity from the wireless in her Dell laptop, which she constantly used to bug me about. Bonus! Hope this helps.

I'm using the ASUS firmware, latest version. My sister brought over my old iPod Touch which is running iOS 6 (cannot upgrade to iOS 7) and that does push airplay to my Boxee Box with both audio and video. So I'm assuming the problem is changes in iOS 7.

new firmware was released on the 13th and sadly it did not fix. looks like reverting is our only choice.

Exact same problem here ...

Usually when I just turn my WiFi on and off my AppleTVs appear ... now they aren't even doing that.

I finally just reverted back to 1.0.1.8n from the ASUS support site and it works flawlessly.

Hey, it's suddenly working now when I enabled IGMP snooping (and kept the Multicast setting).

Now let me test for a couple of days and I'll let you know if it seems to be stable.

still isnt working for me even following these settings. And it appears as if ASUS removed all the old firmwares....I love this router but I guess ill be selling it and getting a new one.

I tried everything in the only thing that finally resolved this issue and all my other iTunes / airplay related issues was to disable ipv6 in my network adapter settings

The problem has been fixed by enabling IGMP Snooping on firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.979.

Airplay works fine again on all my devices.
