Wants an easy way?

Go to iTune.

Highlight the song you want to transfer

right click on your mouse

select "Add to Playlist" will give you choices where you want it to be added and your iPhone is on the very top.

It is a lot faster if you have your phone connected in your computer. It only takes few seconds to transfer what ever you want to transfer in your iPhone and you can control what you want in your iPhone.

Hope it helps.

After following all the advice here (CTRL-S to bring up the sidebar, choosing "manually manage video" ) and dragging songs from "Library/Music" to "Devices (iPhone)" I finally get an error telling me I can't do this because iTunes Match on my phone is switched on. Switched this off, and all of sudden I can sync all my songs.

This has taken hours of my time (including blowing up my PC power supply in the process!) previous to this, iTunes just silently refused to sync the songs, no warnings, no nothing.

Why, for goodness sake, can't you copy a song (a personal recording) from my PC onto my iPhone if I've iTunes match switched on?

On my phone, I then switched iTunes Match back on and it deleted all my personal tracks!

OK... I've worked it out, I also need to turn on iTunes Match from within iTunes on my PC. This then uploads any tracks it doesn't know about to the cloud.

I already had that all set-up on my laptop, just not on this PC.

This will take some time though with my slow upload speeds, so if I want the tracks quickly on my phone I will switch off iTunes Match.

Dowloaded ifunbox everytime I launch it it says the program has quit unexpectedly wont even let me open it at all and I did update my itunes to the newest one I can get tried to get 11 but it says my comp software is not compatable. Regardless Ive had Ipods and Iphones before and never had an issue adding music with any version of itunes. I just don't understand

Just right click on the iPhone on the left pane of iTunes and click on "transfer purchases." Another way is to go to the library and there is a tick box in each song, unselect all those which you dont want on your iphone. After doing that with all your library go to summary and select sync only checked songs.

I AGREE! I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the new iTunes. it is very difficult to use compared to the previous iTunes. It should not be difficult for someone to put music on any device, using iTunes. The simplest way is to go to View > sidebar , but not everyone will thank of that. APPLE you need to fix iTunes, because it is horrible.

I predict that within 2-3 years, Apple products will be less popular, less intuitive, and not good overall. People will shift away from the Apple products craze because Apple products are going downhill! I myself am an Apple product fanatic, but I can feel the shift that people are going to start liking other brands better. Watch out Apple; be more intuitive and fix iTunes!!!!!!!

like @jacobica said, there should not be a FORUM on how to add music to a device! this should be simple!!!!!!!!!! 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

The shift away from Apple has already begun. The company has developed an arrogance toward their customers that manifests itself in everything from crappy customer support to their insistence on the use of proprietry software (that DOES NOT work) in order to complete the most basic of functions EG: transfer music to a phone - it will be the death of the company.

I cannot believe the massive lag between release and fix on this iTune issue.... They took a poor piece of software and made it worse. Were interns responsible for this release? Does no-one working on the project actually own or use an iPhone? I'd be surprised if any of them did because the way this crap was developed and released suggests it was done by someone who had not even a passing association with the product that the software would be linked to.

Apple! Is anyone home? Do any of you care?

ITunes is the most frustrating bad piece of software from a company that touts ease for users of their elegantly over prices hardware. I love my Iphone, but I DESPISE ITUNES (aka Infinitely Terrible Unusable Never Effective Software) it makes it impossible for families to share media within a household, the gui is a monstrosity of engineering dysfunctionality that makes no sense to anyone, It's sole purpose seems to make it impossible for a user to get anything done in a timely manner. It's a hunk that some team obviously spent too much time and development monies into and some labor of love that some engineering group needs to kill and start over. God knows why the keep dumping resources into writting a newer crapier shell over the top of the old crappy shell. My solution is to purchase a windows or google phone and end all of our suffering because amazon makes putting files on your devices user friendly and not the ULOS (useless Lump of ..5h17 that Itunes is. Thank you for your time.

iTunes is a pathetic software, very confusing. I use VLC for media.

Tho i dont want to use this cumbersome software but have to use due iPhone sync.

Guess, it's time to shift to Android :(

And why it copies the files again in iTunes library when they are already there?

Just complicating the storage and using double space for same files.

I was able to directly drag mp3 files to the device tab on left but after software restore it ain't happening any more :'(

how do i put music in my iphone 5 using itunes 11??????
