Itunes 11 will not search in my Ipod

After figuring out in other threads how to make the Search somehow work again in my Library, I was listening to music on my Ipod via Itunes (which is a mess btw, had to go back to the old look to do that nicely else there's this HUGE playlist bar on the left that makes it terribly hard to use) and I tried to search in my Ipod Library/playlist like I used to in Itunes 10 and... it doesn't work.

Is the search of music in a device broken? I might honestly go back to 10 if just for that.

Absolutely ridiculous! Search function only searches main Library, not the attached device... It should search whatever you have selected at the time. How are you supposed to find and delete/manage certain tracks on your iPod? Do they expect you to delete all and re-sync? Or hunt-and-peck for each track? Let's hope this is a miss or bug and not an intentional "feature"....

Why do companies become more and more like Microsoft when they become large?

Sure. Are you on OSX or Windows? Basically, there's a file called "Itunes Library.itl" and you can find it on either OS by searching *.itl. I'm using Windows 7 at work right now, and the folder is located at C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\Music\iTunes and in that folder you might see a folder called something like "ITunes Library Backups" or "Old Itunes Library". In there, I found a bunch of older "Itunes Library.itl" files, which had a date in thei file name to let me know when they were made. I copied that to my \Music\iTunes folder and renamed the copy in there to something else just in case and restarted iTunes and it was back to normal. I'm not sure if you will have that backup folder though.

I can believe it... These guys should be ashamed. Instead of simplify things, they make it complicated! I think they are trying their best to waste the potential of the devices. I own an iPod Classic 120GB and i wish there were another player in the market with this capacity and the ability to play .wav files. I would buy it without hesitate!

Glad it helped! I did a restore recently and forgot about the .itl files and such, and ended up hosing all my library info. I had my music, but all my ratings and play counts got messed up and had to use an older one to retain what info I could. Learned my lesson though. The Classic is the consummate MP3 player, and it's another bad move to discontinue it. Sure, the Touches are nice, but some of us just want as many GB on the go as possible. Plus, higher bit rates.

For us who own an 160 gb Ipod, search via Itunes is absolutely necessary... also we need the art!!! what happen with this two items??? pleas fix it....

i hear you mausan32, i only own an 8 gb ipod and right now, have over 1400 songs on it, and search is greatly missed. i can't imagine trying to manage a 160gb music library without search. has anyone called apple to ask about this?

if you click on a track while viewing your iPod and start typing the name of an artist or a track, it'll sort of show up like you would if you started typing a file's name in the Finder. i still don't like it and i hope they restore the use of the Search Library field, but it works in the meantime...

correction: it only works with whatever category you have your library sorted by on the top (for me, it's Artists)

Itunes 11 will not search in my Ipod
