I have the same concern.

I have only classical music in my lib, and that is a MUST. Cannot upgrade until I get an answer to that.

Also the interface does not seem to be tuned (from whar I see in the what's new section) to a huge number of albums (I have some 5000).

any comment on that welcome 🙂

TThank you. I can see how to list works by composer. However I need to see the composer's name in the list of 'songs' in a playlist or album. Say I'm playing an album in which Yo Yo Ma plays a Bach cello sonata of 3 movements followed by an Elgar concerto. Looking at the information under each 'song' there's at present no way to see when Bach has given way to Elgar. So I need to tag composer in such a way that it appears on song information. I spent time on the phone with Apple and they had no effective suggestion.

Paul, for what it's worth, I put the composer's name in the Artist field. I know it's not literally correct, but it's how most of us think about music, I believe. We say, "I'm listening to Bach" just as we say "I'm listening to Beck."

For albums containing work by more than one composer, this approach makes it necessary to check (in the Get Info window) the box that says "This album is a compilation of songs by different artists." Otherwise the album gets split into different pieces for each composer.

I put the names of performers, ensembles and the like into the Album Artist field. If I want to have more information, I use the Grouping and Comments fields.

It would be nice if this were all standardized somehow so that we could buy or import classical music files already properly tagged, as they are in other genres. But this won't happen until the music industry can agree on some standard tagging scheme, which Apple could then be lobbied to support. There's a project underway to do something like this, to which I can't find any links at the moment. Meanwhile iTunes is flexible enough to accomplish what I really care about.
