What are your thoughts on the New iTunes 11?

I for one am not very impressed! You lose cover flow, and the ability to resize your album art. Unlike previous versions where everything is not in just one area now your searching over the whole itunes for what you need to do. Its cluttered and instead of just editing one album your stuck at looking at all the other distractions instead of what your trying to edit. What are all of your thoughts on this new itunes?

From reading all the various posts, one of my biggest fears

is what is going to happen with all my ALAC CD rips if

I upgrade and what will happen when I plug my iPhone

in for the first time after the update.

Perhaps it is best just to stay with iTunes 10.7. It works!

It manages my iPhone without issue! It also plays back

all my gapless albums (some Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, and

others) without issue! It also lets you have multiple windows for

managing music, apps, and iTunes Store! Etc! Etc! Etc!

iTunes11 is the worst version ever 😠 (and I use iTunes since this application was born in 2001 😎).

The reasons for my opinion are:

  1. there is no longer the "Cover Flow" 😢;
  2. the absence of the voice that allowed the removal of duplicates 😕;
  3. you can not open multiple windows;
  4. it does not allow neither to see nor to update the covers in songs display 😕

and last but not least: Apple does not allow the downgrade 😠 to the iTunes 10.7, which I would very gladly

Sadly, I've concluded that downgrading is not a viable option. Oh, it may solve today's problems, but eventually I know I will be forced to capitulate at some point.

Right now, the "Apple ecosystem" ties my family together. Two iMacs, a Macbook, two iPhones and an iPad all share a common calendar and address book. Pulling that off is much harder than it ought to be. I've struggled with that for years. It just works in Apple-land. OK, so for right now, the Apple ecosystem provides a compelling benefit for me and my family.

However, this ain't rocket science. Right now, it's convenient to not fight the pull of the Borg collective. Eventually, somone (probably Google) will figure out how to offer a competing ecosystem. At that point I will make a change.

I no longer have confidence in Apple's judgment. They have become a sales-driven company (read what Jobs had to say about sales-driven vs. technology-driven companies in his biography). Apple has not released a paradigm-changing product in years. I now no longer believe they have the brain power to do so. The Emperor is buck naked.

I do not foresee ever buying another Apple product. I will tolerate iTunes 11 for now. But I will certainly vote with my feet the next time I make a technology purchase.

My .02. YMMV.

Actually, I think without Steve around to constantly hound

the upper management, they are just sitting around, collecting

their fat paychecks, and just delegating everthing down the line.

The result is lower levels not having guidance, control, or answerability.

Almost reminicent of the disaterous Amelio era.

I not impressed.

The sound quality on my Air has gone for a heap of *()(@*.....

I have tried installing other music players and they all work fine but even my old files played with 11 is really bad.

I have read the whole story about how to get 10.7 back but I am now so tired of this I am contemplating just jumping on this thing......

iTunes 11 is horrible. I can see far fewer albums/podcasts and tracks in the same space, and I lose the ability to see my iPod's library and playlists in-line with the rest of iTunes content in the sidebar. Instead I can only see one or the other at a time - either local iTunes content, or my iPod's content. This is super annoying as I use my iPod to move my library of music and podcasts between OSes and computers, yet I often have local content related to the particular use of that computer or OS on that computer (I dual boot between Mac and Windows on this machine, for example).

Give me back the old UI as an option where I can efficiently see a lot more at once, and I'm not forced to see album art.

Give me back the old sidebar with my local content and iPod's content in the same place, above and below each other.

Who the **** designed this mess, anyway? Older iTunes may not have had a perfect UI, but for many versions it had an efficient, clean, functional UI. Now that's gone with zero options in the view menu to change anything back to the way it was. Somebody at Apple really cannot even conceive that others may not their their opinion as to UI.

iTunes 11 - a massive step backwards. What were they thinking?

Dec 4, 2012 9:28 AM in response to Calum

That's an interesting conclusion to come to. Just because you didn't like cover flow doesn't mean that it was bad.

There was a time when cover art was a lot more important than it is today - I'll agree to that. Like Bloodwing said, it was a way a lot of us bought records, thumbing over albums or later CDs. I have a large library and I worked for a long time to make sure my cover art was correct. It was nice to use cover flow as a representation of the artist's work. Doesn't mean much musically, but still part of the experience.

I'm sorry, but Apple should give users the option to downgrade without ALL of these IF. I am taking responsibility for not having made a backup of the library before the upgrade, but from the Apple website should be available for download previous versions and it must allow the downgrade in a more easy and simple. I do not like this policy of Apple.

Try doing a search on apples software download site, for iTunes 10.7

http://support.apple.com/downloads/

This is how I found the download link, and mine is in english, although it does state that other languages are supported in this download.

It may be due to where you are in the world and how Apple's download site interprets what geographical area you are located in.
