13" rMBP has delay before charging light comes on - anyone else seen this?

When I connect the magsafe connector to my new 13" Retina Macbook Pro, there is often a delay before I see any light on the magsafe adapter. I *think* the delay is longer the more the battery is depleted. The delay is up to 45 seconds, and it's a bit disconcerting - you're never quite sure whether it's plugged in properly, or whether you've forgotten to switch on the powerpoint! Anyone else seen this?

Thanks.

Mine MacbookPro 13" (mid-2014) has the same issue.

When plug in power adapter, charging process starts in about 30 seconds.

But..

During the charging process you can unplug and plug it back and it starts charging instantly.

It seems, the time, that it takes to start charging depends on how flat battery is?

Is it technical fault? Or it's behaviour of "MagSafe2"?

Just to add something to this... While it may seem like a negative issue that the charging light doesn't turn on immediately, this is actually a good thing (as far as the 1 to 2 second delay; not sure what's up with the 40+ second delay, as I don't think I've seen that before on my MBPr), as I've found (through research and actual experience with three suspected replicas) that fake MagSafes actually light up instantly, whereas every single authentic MagSafe adapter I've used (the MagSafe 2/t-connector from my late-2013 MBPr, the MagSafe 2/t-connector from my fiance's 2014 MBA - which works fine with my -late-2013 MBPr, btw. -, and an authentic MagSafe 1/L-connector) has a 1 to 2 second delay in the light turning on once plugged in.

If you're looking for a replacement or spare MagSafe, be very careful who/where you buy it from. I'd say that easily 75% of the adapters on eBay are replicas. The worst part is that there are sellers with 1,000+ positive/98%+ feedback scores that are selling these replicas as "100% Authentic"/"OEM"/"Original"/"Genuine", which makes it even harder to find an authentic adapter. If the adapter is listed as "New" and it does not come with a box, that is a good sign it's fake. Also, if it's "New" and being sold for half the retail price, that's another good sign it's a fake (which works for pretty much anything you're looking to buy). If it comes with the extension cord, that's a check in the "authentic" column (though not something that automatically makes it authentic on its own). It *****, because I've bought tons of stuff on eBay that was authentic, including a MagSafe adapter (I recently bought two/1 was authentic and 1 was fake). I also sell stuff on eBay, so I know there are honest people doing business on there. On a side note, another one of the knockoffs I purchased was from 24HourChargers.com, whose website had listed the adapter as "Genuine" and seemed to look legitimate. Now, I'm not saying everything they sell is fake; I'm only commenting on the one purchase I made from them, which I believe happened to be a knock-off. To their credit, they were willing to accept a return/refund when i contacted them with my suspicions that the adapter was fake*. However, I ended up forgetting to return the thing, so I'm now stuck with another replica MagSafe...😟

As for the fake adapters, I am fairly certain that using a knock-off for several months damaged my computer. A few months ago, my MBPr (with an SSD HD) started having start-up issues, where it takes 30 to 40 seconds from powering up before the Apple logo pops up and the regular 12 second start-up process ensues. After speaking with Apple, they said it was due to my battery, which makes me feel like the replica charger has something (or everything) to do with it. Lesson learned: it's not worth saving a few bucks on an accessory if there's a risk of damaging a $1,000+ device. I'm not saying to only buy adapters directly from Apple, only that you need to be very careful, and if you believe the adapter you bought is a replica, it's probably best to stop using it immediately.

Hopefully this helps people. Sorry if this is common knowledge already.

*Besides the light-up issue on the replicas, they all had the same manufacturer listed on the label sticker on the bottom of the adapter, one that was different than the manufacturer listed on the 3 authentic MagSafes I own. When i tried asking an Apple rep about where the MagSafes were manufactured and if there was only one manufacturer that was used, the rep didn't know. Nor could he give me any tips about how to tell if one was authentic or not, beyond saying that if the adapter had the Apple logo engraved into the side, it was authentic (which was bad advice, as replica-makers are now able to replicate the logo, and most likely have been for a few years now).
