Open multiple playlist windows?

It doesn't seem that I can open multiple playlist windows in version 11. I'm a massage therapist and broadcast, via the Griffin Rocket, my music to all the radios in the house. I chose different playlists for different clients and need to switch playlists for different clients which I could do easily by having multiple iTunes windows open.

Now I can't? I just used to click on the playlist icon, and a new iTunes window would open.

😮

Is it 5 years later already?

But it's back! Multiple windows in iTunes! I think this came back with version 12.6, or maybe I'm just slow to notice things.

Well, it is what it is, but it's hugely frustrating. How long has this been a feature in iTunes? I can't remember a time when you couldn't do this, and it's a just a normal part of the way I use iTunes. I'm not a DJ or anything, but my iTunes library is about ten times as large as my iPod's capacity, so I am always changing what things get synced; I have three big playlists, "Current," "Current Classical," and "Radio programs" (FM captures with Griffin AudioShark) whose contents I keep changing. Those three windows are always open, and iTunes re-opens with all of them open.

How hard would it have been for Apple to have retained this, even if they'd made it a feature that was off by default?

I don't see any real alternative to upgrading, you can only stall for so long, but darn it all.

Another really irritating thing is when you type search criteria into the search field, once it does the search, it it clears what you typed. There's no little "x" clear button in the search field any more. Now they think they know when I want it cleared. What if I was searching albums, and I wanted to go back and search songs? Now I have to type the search criteria in all over again. How stupid!

Joseph, I am unable to figure out what you mean by "playlist view." Click around as I might, I cannot find this! I am tired this morning, so probably a bit slow. But can you elaborate please? I am on Mac, which I assume is not an issue. I can click on a playlist and see it to the right, but I have not been able to find this split-window view you describe. Thanks in advance for any further explanation!

OK, I see what I was doing "wrong," simply using iTunes in its old mode, which eliminates many buttons and options. Boy, did Apple really mess around with this, and for what possible reason? They've done this repeatedly, just shuffling functions around for no apparent reason. What used to be a drop-down menu becomes a button somewhere else. I really wonder what's up with that.
