Open multiple playlist windows?

Where did you find the instructions of how to go back to iTunes 10?

The recent release of iTunes 11.0.2 has removed the kludge for viewing two playlists at the same time. Now if you are in "Add To" playlist mode, and you control-click a song from your library on the left and choose "show in playlist," you are taken to this new playlist in single window playlist mode, and the sidebar of the first playlist disappears.

Apple, thanks for the "fix"?

I have a lot of playlists from a large library so this not being able to view multiple playlist windows at the same time makes my work almost impossible. I have registered my complaints with itunes but would like to figure out your suggestion...I still do not generate seperate playlist windows follong your suggestions.

Yes. I I have a lot of playlists to. View in Playlist is a sorry replacement. So is Add to Playlist. When you use them you have to select/scroll over and over and over. If you have a lot of song lists, or a lot of songs in a playlist you have to select/hold/scroll way down off the page. It's ridiculous.

Just give us a window when we want it. We have these huge monitors on our iMacs and are limited to one window. It reminds me of something Microsoft would invent, where the designer has no clue how people use their application.

Very well put, PGoodwin! I am not so familiar with Msft products, but you're right, the designers here have no clue, they are just fiddling for fiddling's sake.

Indeed, I often get the impression, and especially with iTunes, that Apple likes regularly to shuffle the deck, to just take all the controls and functions you've gotten used to and put them in new places. Hide and seek. What was once a control-click turns into a drop-down menu. What was once in the menu at top of screen gets shoved into some other menu. And for what reason? Often, there seem to be nothing gained from all this. It's as if someone scrambled the syntax of a language everyone knows, just for the heck of it. In a word, maddening.

I, too, live by playlists, and the current iTunes is so dumb in its design that I really have to wonder what Mr. Design Himself, up in heaven, is thinking as he gazes down and sees the vaunted ergonomics machine he built crashing onto the rocks of mediocrity.

All of which is to say, for the umpteenth time, Apple, please give us back our multiple playlist windows. Pgoodwin is right; big-screen real-estate is getting wasted! Why, pray tell?

I found a great solution to roll back to itunes 10.7 from previous discussions and it works a treat Now I have all my playlist functionality back again!

I found a hokey way of viewing multiple playlists. On a Mac:

Select the playlist. Select Print from the top pull down menu. Then in the print dialog box, rather than printing, choose Open in Preview. This will bring up that playlist on the screen in the Preview app along with the iTunes app window. I didn't open more than one, but preview will show multiple windows.

The downside to this is that you can't edit the playlist in the Preview window (obviously). But at least you can look at what's there without going back and forth between playlists in iTunes. For long song titles, in order to see the whole title in Preview, do a Page Setup to Landscape before you open in Preview.

I guess another option would be, if you had playlists that you virtually never change, you could print them to PDF files and store them for when you need them.

This is all so pathetic though. Just put the multiple window function back in iTunes for sh#t sake Apple. Two updates have come out for iTunes 11 and they still haven't restored this function....ridiculous.

Here is a list of iTunes alternatives; I've not tried any of them, but it's interesting to note that there are such things. I think that mainly they just play tunes in the iTunes library; I don;t know if they burn disks, etc.

I can't believe Apple still hasn't brought this back into iTunes. It's why I'm still using 10.6.3.

Tell the idiots to read this forum and others. I hate to be so harsh, but I honestly think only an idiot would think removing this functionaltiy was a good idea.

When a company fails to give customers what they and need, customers will turn elsewhere.

Apple, your customers want the ability to open multiple playlist windows.

Take a couple of minutes to post to the Apple feedback site - link above. This forum isn't monitored by Apple, it's all users. The more feedback they get on their main site, the more likely they will do something about this situation.

Ideally, to suit everyone, Apple should offer all apps default installed as "basic", and have an "advanced tools" option for those of us that want to have a more customized experience. I am a DJ and would very much like the option of multiple windows in iTunes - just like we have in Finder, Safari, Notes, Pages, Keynote, Numbers etc. C'mon Apple! it's a few lines of code - give us this option - give us the CHOICE!

On another note: The Name of the iTunes Library should be on the titlebar of iTunes (and the Photos app) - for those of us that have multiple libraries.
