So far iTunes 11 seems decent, looks nice. However, previously I kept multiple windows open. For example one on the store to do searches, view categories, check for app updates, etc and one on my main library for playing music.

To create a new window you used to double-click on the category in the left side navigation window. I.e. double click on store to get a store window.

That doesn't work with iTunes 11. Nothing else seems to either (i,e. dragging the category from itunes 11, right clicking on it, etc. Nothing in the menus shows "new window" either.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I have the same complaint.  It was great to two windows open and drag items between them.  I DJ and would have one playlist "playing" and the other where I could search for songs.

I hope we can get this back!

That was one of the first things I tried to do (open a playlist window). Once again Apple takes one step forward and two steps back.  More and more they remind me of Microsoft back in the 90's (poor code quality, lame UI, etc...).

I can see no reason whatsoever that this feature should have been removed.  Please Apple, just put it back.

This is REALLY frustrating that you can't have multiple windows open.  I'm looking through new Christmas music and I'd like to see which songs I already own and now i have to keep flipping back and forth.  Just doesn't make any sense.

I just "upgraded" to iTunes 11 and the first thing I tried to do was to get multiple windows.  I used them to get items copied from one playlist to another and it was very useful to see playlists side by side so they could be compared, e.g., comparing a "manual"-managed iPod playlist with what is on a laptop or desktop.  Not having this is VERY FRUSTRATING! ! ! ! !  This does not make sense to me either.  Definitely a step backwards!!!  If this functionality is not restored, then I will revert to iTunes 10.

I also liked having the multiple speakers appear in a separate window.  Now, it is only available as a pop-up.  I really liked having that control in a separate window.  I could easily control the sounds in the house.  Now, it is a multi-step process, and I cannot readily see the settings---I now have to move my mouse, click on iTunes, and then click on the tiny icon for managing speakers.  Apple, please restore that functionality, too!

Yes, I completely agree.  Multiple windows for multiple play lists is essential for me.  Not having that ability is a deal-breaker for me.  I will revert to prior version or find a different player, more likely.

Ditto on the multiple windows complaint. I used it when looking at the $.69 songs and checking my library to see which I already own...since the iTunes store doesn't highlight what you already own...

Apple, please restore the ability to open multiple iTunes windows!

Here's a suggestion for shopping, at least.  Search for music using Spotify or even Amazon using your browser while your music window is open in iTunes.  Of course, if you want to use the iTunes store to buy, you'll still have to leave your music window, but at least you can check for music you already have without having to jump back an forth (and rescroll back to what you were just looking at).  Or, maybe, buy your music elsewhere, since Apple no longer seems to care about how users of their products actually go about their business.

I spent about 90 minutes on the phone last night with an Apple consultant asking how to open multiple windows in iTunes 11. She was very nice, but she had no idea how to do this. Long story short, it can't be done. Then I asked for directions on how to downgrade to iTunes 10.7. She had me on hold and told me she was contacting her supervisor for him to give me directions. She tried to link him in on our converstation, but apparently their phone system wasn't working last night. I was promised a call back from this supervisor. No call but I did get an email with links to the MacRumors page (don't know if that was from Apple or as a result of my query here last night). Not looking forward to spending the rest of the afternoon trying to go back but I did complain mightyly about this upgrade and suggested that Apple read these comments. I also told the consultant that this might just be a cluster**** just like Apple maps. I will never automatically install software updates without looking at what I'm doing again.

    Ditto.

Apple, why remove this feature? Ridiculous. Reinstitute multiple windows, please.

This feels like the train towards iOS-ville gone too far. Some of us still use real computers, with multiple monitors and such.

    Sheesh.

Add this to the numerous requests ... itunes 11 is a big mistake,  shuffle gone, coverflow gone, multiple windows gone, ....   bad, bad itunes

Some idiotic genius wants to delete functions from iTunes ...

In the end I believe that the main issue with iTunes is that it makes too many things together, and Apple does not want to divide iTunes into separate programs to manage different kinds of media and other for devices and then another for iTunes store, as iTunes is their program to enter into Windows ... On Osx I will feel far better with separated programs ...

But the "delete useful function" issue is a big issue with Apple at the moment, in my view. By example iPhoto needs to get better at managing faces and Apple eliminates the ability to delete photos when in an Album, as to have a gray on the Menu will have any positive implication for someone. Stupid software design.

Let's hope that Mr. Jony Ive is able to think about doing things with the computer!

I too just tried to do this. Was trying to clean up some files, jumping back and forth between the Music Store and your library is one hellacious experience. Dear Apple, STOP DELETING FEATURES! Between this and removing the snooze duration from reminders in ML, my everyday workflow is not a total cluster. Time to submit feature requests.
