iTunes 11 removed Display duplicates option
I downloaded iTunes 11 and there is no longer an option to Display Dupicates in the File menu. Am I missing it somewhere or did they get rid of it?

They seem to have gotten rid of it. Add it to the list of failures that make up iTunes 11.
Just search for Doug's scripts for "Dupin". It is shareware, but the 'find' functionality is free. It's also more comprehensive than the built in dupe finder.
I was irritated about this as well, but at least there's a workaround.
Doug's scripts for "Dupin"
These are unfortunately for Mac only
I have no idea if TuringTest2 "deduper" script works on v 11.
Maybe a more informed member can comment ???

But my question is: See previous post, do these still work under iTunes 11 ??
Yes. They just hook into an XML file that Apple puts out there for 3rd party apps like these. That hasn't changed from 10 to 11.
Are you 100% sure ?? I think you are using Mac and Windows is clearly not the same !!
Read this post as an Example

Thus Id rather let the author of the scripts answer
Then try it or don't. Why waste everyones time asking for solutions when that's something only the developer of the app could answer for you? If an app hooks into the library XML file, it will continue to work, as that is the published method for 3rd party tools. If someone is using an non-standard API chances are it will break.
Two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates. Use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
Enjoy. 🙂

I can't believe Apple removed the 'Display Duplicates' feature in iTunes 11. This was a critical time-saving utility, when managing large music libraries.
While I appreciate that folks are willing to share scripts to replace this feature, I still have to ask Apple why I should have to resort to using 3rd party apps. to make up for their short-sighted removal of functionality?
Because Apple is a large company and everytime the founder of a large company dies or gives up control, the Company starts doing dumb things eventually making the company no where close to what it used to be.
Why wouldn't they just add the functionality to the smart playlist boolean? I can understand the desire to clean up the UI, but removing functionality which is used on a regular basis *****.
We already know iTunes 11 was deleyed for issues unknown. It's more likely they simply didn't have time to get it into 11.0 and properly QA it. I would think it will make a reappearance given time. Imagine if such a function worked improperly and ended up displaying tracks that were not dupes, and end users deleted them expecting a good result?
There are 3rd party tools that do this which work well enough, or in some caes better than the built in functionality. It's just not something to stress over short term.
I don't think implementation would have been an issue. Much of the behind the scenes code won't have been changed. The duplicates filter will most likely be a pretty standard SQL query.
One of the problems with the old display duplicates feature was that novice users would select all the displayed items and delete them, only to discover that their library now contained no copies of the tracks that had previously been duplicated. Even when this is understood there are a number of different ways of generating duplicates in iTunes, some of which create extra files on the hard drive, some of which don't. When deleting it is important to know which you have otherwise you can delete the only physical copy of a track in error. This is one of the reasons I wrote the DeDuper script, not because I needed it, but because I was interested to see if it could be done automatically and safely. I haven't completely achieved the second goal yet (problems with a special case where one file is added to the library from two different paths), but automating the process allows preservation & amalgamation of ratings, play counts, playlist membership which just isn't possible by hand. See this thread for more background on it.

It does t necessarily need to be broken though. We know the d. Had updates. We also know they ran out if time. If they didn't have time to QA it then I would have also left it out rather than risk an unknown adverse result.
