How to connect an apple tv to hotel wifi

Connect via your laptop and enter all that stuff. Then try connecting your ATV to it. A network like that is likley to have rules in the terms about not allow streaming traffic from services iCloud, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, etc. So they maybe blocked.

I would like to add to the original question.

I want to recreate the capability I have in my office of displaying

content on my iPad (or iPhone) on my TV via my Apple TV 3.

I stream movies, mirror the iPad display and show keynotes.

There may or may not be WiFi available in the hotel.

Swabaxter... you need wifi to communicate between your iPad and Apple TV. However, you don't need necessarily need internet to communicate between them. That said, the question is, "Do the files reside on your iPad or iPhone (the movies or presentations to be displayed)?

If your answer is "no" – meaning you need access to Netflix, Hulu, etc. Then, connecting to Apple TV is pointless. In this case, purchase an A/V cable to connect your iPad/iPhone directly to the TV.

If your answer is yes, you can bring a wireless router with you and setup a wifi network in the room (without Internet), and then you can play the devices from you iPad/iPhone to Apple TV. However, even though you "can" do this, and the technology is still pretty cool today... it is much more efficient of time to just but an A/V cable and connect directly to the TV. Unless you have wifi/Internet access, there is no "real" purpose or advantage to trying to connect your devices to the TV via a middle man (Apple TV).

@paperqueen you shouldn't be able to screw up your computer's MAC address. If you follow the directions you reset it back to the original settings after you accept the terms and conditions when you are spoofing the Apple TV. The only real reason you do this is to avoid the network seeing two of the same MAC addresses.

I think it resets to original MAC after reboot.

Awesome advise this worked wonders! My hotel uses ATT Stay Connect, she says it works for all streaming players and xbox and such you just need the MAC address! So easy! Now I really CAN take my Apple TV everywhere!

I just arrived at a Marriott and used the method in the first thread, called their tech support ( got the number from the front desk) and within 5 minutes of calling was hooked up. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately this wont work for me. the hotel I am staying at doesn't have a help desk nor do I have a laptop. I am using personal hotspot on my iPhone and it works great, however it is about 2gb per movie

Does anyone know if apple plans to support hotel style wifi in the apple tv?

This is the method that worked best for me. Easy enough to get my laptop onto the hotel wi-fi network, and then without having to call anyone I used an ethernet cable I carry to hook up my Apple TV carefully following the instructions provided by GREAT LIFE. This worked straight away and without entering any long numbers. I used the last option he offered – my laptop was set share wi-fi via ethernet. Fantastic.

I found other solution:

Switching MacAddress using your computer you will get you AppleTv get in into the Hotel White List.

In my case I used the Terminal command using en0 like the first link describes.

Have you heard of anybody calling in to Comcast and actually making this happen? They told me that I needed to get the account information for Ramada Inn so they can look it up. I knew it would be a chore with Comcast.

There is also the possibility to use a (relatively cheap) travel router as a "repeater" for the hotel wi-fi. I've succesfully done this just the other day. Same problem: the hotel's wi-fi is using a separate login screen to log on to the internet. As the Apple TV does not currently offer a web browser of any kind, this usually precludes a direct connection of the Apple TV to the hotel's internet service.

By using a cheap travel router (in my case a HooToo) I was able to first connect my iPhone to that router (over wi-fi) and then select the hotel's wi-fi within the router settings, basically making the router a repeater for it. By now opening the browser on your iPhone or iPad - or whatever other device with a browser that is connected to your travel router's wi-fi - you can now authenticate to the hotel's internet service.

This method affords several distinct advantages: Firstly, you can now connect your Apple TV (and all other devices without a browser, like a wi-fi radio etc.) to your own little wi-fi network using a simple password/pass phrase of your choice instead of the hotel's login screen. Also, you now only have to authenticate once instead of every single time you connect a new device (and re-authenticate over and over again each time the login period expires). Thirdly, you are no longer bound to any restrictions like a maximum number of connected devices or similar.

Worked/works perfectly for me, and is in my opinion the simplest solution with the most advantages.

Oftentimes the mac address will be inside the portal URL. Which you will see when you hit the terms page once you attempt to connect with your PC. Replace that mac address wth the one which belongs to your apple TV. Then accept the terms.

For example the mac address of ur apple tv should be replaced.

For advanced users:

Open developer tools on your browser then go to the terms page and hit accept. See when it sent in that http post body or in the response headers. Then recreate that response and post it using a plugin like the advanced rest client

At Marriott's you dont even need to provide your device's MAC number.

They have a hidden Wi-Fi network that bypass all the regular authentication and lets you connect right through to whatever streaming services you might have...

Just call front desk they will provide directions. Very easy.

Just call the Hotel's wifi ISP tech support, get the number from the front desk, and they should be more than happy to add your MAC address manually; instead of you doing it via the browser prompts. This is actually a pretty common request.
