Where is the join tracks control. Vital for classical music!

Okay, I figured out how to join tracks when loading from a CD. I joined three of them. But... when I place the songs into a playlist and play all tracks from the playlist on shuffle, the songs do not stay together. Is there any way to do that?

When you do this, there is only one track. ITunes cannot shufle the three songs you joined.
I have tried all the suggestions here and in the linked documents in the replies under this topic. I have unsorted and resorted the tracks in sequence. I have restarted iTunes and rebooted my computer. I have ejected and reinserted the CD, hoping to start fresh. But the option "Join CD tracks" does NOT appear under Options, even after I select multiple contiguous tracks.
What's even stranger is that this happened AFTER I had already worked my way through about 20 of them, joining them in small groups. For some reason all the of the "join" brackets & labels disappeared, and after that the "join CD tracks" option was no longer visible.
When I inserted a different CD which I had not yet played or imported, the "Join tracks" option was also missing.
Help!

I am an audio book nerd and I had a LOT of trouble with the new iTunes upgrade and joining tracks. A MUST for audio books, classical music and the like. I have read all the posts and there is one critical piece of information that is not being said. And no, I am not trying to be "one of those"...LOL.
You MUST sort the tracks as someone said earlier. They MUST be in order 1 through whatever. The problem is that you can't sort by track name - you MUST use the track number the first column completely to the left.
I was having the same problem - there was simply NO OPTION to join tracks and it didn't matter whether I selected them all or not. The problem is with many audio books they have strange names (often times imported by Gracenote). So even though they appear to be in order iTunes says they're not.
The minute you sort by the FIRST COLUMN and select all tracks...the Join CD tracks appears! WOO HOO!
Hope this help all of you frustrated folks out there!
How does this work for a mix of music within a playlist? Where some of the music are gapless, but if it sorted by name, its all mixed up. I believe the old iTunes allows you to join several tracks together, so no matter how you sort the playlist, the tracks stays together and plays seemlessly.
Hi,
You cannot use iTunes to join tracks once they have been imported.
Join tracks only works when you import a CD.

Odd. I could have sworn I was able to do this before with previous iTunes versions...
Wish I had read this before I ripped David Copperfield... 32 disks
Yeah I know that, but most of my purchases are now throug iTunes Music Store. You can't do these on purchased songs with iTunes 11...previous you can, but not with 11.

No you could never do this with purchased songs as it is only available when RIPping a CD.
You can do it with 3rd party appos and scripts.
Its too bad. Purchased songs intented to play in sequencial order seemlessly are broken in shuffle mode.
Hi,
This is how shuffle works! Tracks are played in random order.
Jim
After fidgiting with iTunes and reading the online help, here is how you join tracks or keep tracks selected to play in order from your custom playlist. Even if you have it in Shuffle mode on your playlist.
"From iTunes Help:
Shuffle or repeat songs
Do any of the following:
Turn shuffle on or off: Click the Shuffle button
Shuffle is on when the arrows are blue
Shuffle albums or groupings: Choose Controls > Turn On Shuffle > “by Albums” (or “by Groupings”). iTunes plays the songs in the order in which they appear on the album or in the grouping, and then chooses another album or grouping at random."
All you do is make sure you give that grouping a custom name for that group.
Need HELP!!! I'm working with the audiobook "The Storyteller" by Jodi Picoult. There are 15 CDs, each with about 20 tracks. I insert CD #1. When the 20 tracks show up, I "Select All" of the 20 tracks then, from the Options Menu, choose "Join Tracks". I also select to get these tracks as an MP3 file. Fine, all 20 tracks from CD#1 become one big track. I do the same for CD#2~15. I now have 15 big tracks. HOW do I join those 15 big tracks into ONE humoungous track? Once I get that accomplished, how to I burn said one humoungous track onto a CD or USB thumb drive?
As far as I know, you can't combine those 15 big tracks into one. I have never tried to burn the tracks onto a CD since I usually put them on my iPod.
