Itunes 11 : two steps forward, two steps back.

i) Changing album artwork size in Albums - surely this is a no-brainer ! So why has it been removed. if nothing else is shows that mac design is losing its elegance and consistency (eg why can you change it in artists and genres and not in albums ! - this is poor/lazy UI design)

ii) although i like the new album detail, their is no facility to reorder track by field type (as per the old table view) Now we have to change track numbers on each track ( a right fiddle).

iii) Dragging in my own videos automatically assumes they are 'Home Videos' - NO.. poor assumption. With the law about to change on ripping DVDs this wil become even more annoying.

iv) More generally, Airplay is fantastic concept but still a bit too flaky. Sometimes my brand new macbook cannot see my airport express at all as an option in sounds and at other times it is listed but when selected, automatically jumps back to internal. Only way i have found round this is to reboot !

v) with movies becoming just as common as music as a media type within itunes, why is the meta data still not object type specific. Select a movie, select getInfo . . .. what do you see? Album, composer, track nos etc! This should be offering Director, Movie title, etc etc. Also why no multipart genre? instead of 'action' , 'crime', 'drama', I get a new genre type 'action, crime, drama'. What a mess.

vi) also whilst on movies . . . when i view movie data on ipad, i only get basic stuff, No 'composer (director)', 'Comments (description)' etc So when i browse on ipad i can't even get to read the synposis i have carefully copied into the comments field witihin itunes. Again so messy and lazy and inconsistent.

Overall Itunes needs a jolly good rethink. Users have moved on . . . . Designers have to some extent but seem to be looking to add 'glam' items rather than robust, consistent, flexible, user-focussed interface.

Honestly, having taught UI design for many years, I would love to have 15 mins with itunes designers, if only to show them how users are trying to use their interface . . . Come on Jonny . . . show them how it should be done!

I agree with all the comments. I also have spent ages adding good sized cover art to my tracks, now I cannot easily see it any more. I have provided Apple iTunes feedback from the app. I doubt anything written here will be seen by those reaponsible for the iTunes code, so please ensure you provide Apple direct feedback on this gripe, and ask all those you know who use iTunes to similarly complain...

This no longer works since the 11.0.4 update. We now instead get a mini player that can only be resized from small to tiny. I know, because I weekly rip CDs into my iTunes, scan every booklet cover, clean them up in Photoshop, and add them to the files. It is VERY disappointing that this has happened. Perhaps some messages to Apple will change this. Album art is important to many of us. I have nearly 3,000 CDs I have added over many years - most of the covers are by my own scans.
