CD is stuck in drive, won't eject, no icon

I put an audio CD from the public library in the slot and no picture of a CD came up on the desk top. It sounds like it's struggling in there. I've tried to eject it but it won't come out. Please help!

Oh My God... Thx! I'm happy I read this post tonight! It's all day thay I face a white screen on my iMac Intel!

This morning I inserted a cd in the slot but it got stucked. The icon of the disc didn't appear! It's not the first time that happens to me. I have almost never used cd or dvd... maybe this was the fifth time I putted something in the cd/dvd slot and it's the second time it happened that the drive got stucked!

The first time after several attemp the cd came out! This time I went reading on the support site and following one of the suggested methods I have shutted the mac down. When I have restarted it... white screen of death (as someone else has name it in another post!) Tryed all possible keyboard combination suggested from the support site, from friends, from the guy at the support center of apple (I was supposed to pay 45$ if he was able to solve the issue via phone but nothing!) and nothing did the trick! I was already ready to bring it back to the apple store tomorrow morning!

Glad I couldn't sleep and I have decided to follow your suggestion tho!

Anyway I must say this has been rather disappointing! This is not fun! I have been PC user for years and this is my first mac and after only 6 months I got stucked already whitout knowing what to do! If I was not coming on this forum tonight I would have had to go to the apple store and carry my iMac all around because of a missing hole and incomplete information?

Ma ya... glad it's solved... for this time at least!

I'm a PC user.
A couple of months ago, I talked my sister into going in on a new iMac for our real estate business. Drove 25 miles to CompUSA. Got a iMac Duo Core 20". Got it home. Set up was real easy. Got on line and it took about 3 hours for it to download all of the updates. Then I got AOL installed. The last program to be installed is the program that we use the most to creat letter heads and flyers. Program installed. When I tried to eject the disk nothing. Rebooting didnt work. Next day we took it back to CompUSA. Service Tech couldnt get disk out. Said that the system couldnt find the cdrom. They gave us another unit. But before we left the store we had the tech set it up to make sure it worked. He offered to install the program so sis went into store to get another copy of the program. He installed it with no problem. Then he tried to eject the disk. Nothing. At this point my sister she wanted her money back and that was it.

Two units in a row with the same problem. Plus a total of aprox 75 miles worth of gas wasted. You mention Mac or Apple around my sister and you get cussed out.

I am having the same problem with my brand new imac, only it is a cd that came with my ipod that is stuck. i have tried every suggestion from the previous postings. any more ideas?
i also seem to have another issue with the superdrive, as when i click on the idvd icon i get a message saying my mac does not have a supported supredrive.

should I return this machine for repair/replacement? I have not even had it for a week.

For what it's worth, I've had this exact same problem, but I didn't wait it out. What I did was stick a credit card into the CD slot, very very slowly, until I could just barely feel the edge of the disc spinning. I pressed the card against the disc ever so slightly and the disc stopped spinning. The drive made the normal eject noises and presto! They disc ejected and the computer booted normally.

Obviously it's a risky method, but it has worked for me. Just make sure you are pressing the card against the front of the disc and not the data side.

I've also had luck ejecting a disc that wouldn't mount on the Desktop by putting the computer to sleep and holding the Eject key to wake it. This doesn't always work, though.
