Why is my column browser greyed/grayed out in iTunes 11??

Since upgrading to iTunes 11 I haven't been able to get the column browser back to how I had it previously. I want to have a genre column and an artist column, but the column browser options are greyed out for me.

Any tips?

Can you suggest whose copy of 10.7 is safe to install? I'm reluctant to download from just any site

might I have it on a back up? How would I find it? could I click on it to open it from a back up?

my "previous Library" , nothing says "10.7", all are shown by dates... but even looking at "details", none show 10.7, they are all dates like

2012-04-01.itl (which is before the up/downgrade)

this kind of thing is like falling off a log for those of you who know your way around, for some of us, we get into the water and find out is it nothing so easy

but I am glad to learn.

Your original post had a link for the 64bit version of 10.7 from Apple's website. If you need the 32bit version then get the details from here which also includes another set of downgrade instructions.

Mine previous libraries are just marked by date also, so just use the most appropriate one which should be the last one if you have only upgraded once since 10.7. This thread was started soon after 11 was released, so use that as a guide if you get stuck.

So it's almost March now, anyone know if apple have fixed this yet or offered a better solution? I've got the column browser just fine for normal itunes but it's not available when for my ipod when i connect it. Makes putting playlist mixes together a real pain - having to scroll down through every song and artist every time. Almost not worth using itunes.

Of course they haven't fixed it. Apple doesn't make iTunes better, Apple makes iTunes worse.

If you can find an older copy of iTunes on another computer, you might be able to turn it on--I did this for my iPhone 5 but haven't been able to do it yet for my iPad mini. However, I didn't use another computer, I booted my Mac from a backup (now deleted) of the previous version. I don't know if you can actually do this using someone else's iTunes, but when I get my other mini set up with Leopard/SL, I'll check on that and try to post an update.

I had a similar issue when I plugged my iPhone into iTunes it sorted the songs by Name and greyed out all my other columns.

I managed to fix the problem eventually. So With my iPhone connected I selected (from the side bar on the left) the Music folder on my iPhone and went to the View menu on the top menu bar. Then clicked view option and expanded the Sort by: bar and set it to Artist.

Wow, what a pain in the backside!

To those of you who keep saying, "Click on 'Songs' and all will be well," I only get the bar with "Songs (Albums, Artists, etc)" when I'm looking at my iTunes Library. That bar (with "Songs," etc) disappears when I view my songs on my ipod. So on my iPod (in iTunes), there IS NO "SONGS" TO CLICK ON. but maybe you know a way to bring that bar up. And then, all will be well.

On 11.0.4, does anybody know how to get the column broswer view when viewing music on the iPhone? This is not the same as the songs on the itunes library but the songs on the iPhone.

I wonder if the setting 'manually manage music and videos'. I can use the column browser to see the music in the itunes library and in fact use that to manually drag (copy) the songs to my iPhone but when I click iPhone - music (on the sidebar), I cant get the column browser to show...

help!

In order to get the column browser to reappear on my iPhone, I had to run an earlier version of iTunes. I used my backup drive to boot the computer, opened the old version, and turned on the browsers. They stay turned on even when you start using the new version. So the information has to be stored somewhere on your phone, but I don't know where or how to access it using jailbreak tools like iFile.

I have NO IDEA why Apple thought it was a good idea to disable the column browser.

I don't have older version of iTunes....I lost my iP4 and got an android phone to use waiting for a new 5s (no point upgrading and locking my self for next 3yrs onto old phone)....The thing that bothers me the most about android is inability to play nice with my music management/playlists/sorting...too bad I learned Apple broke their superior feature and went two steps back.

I will monitor this thread waiting to be resolved and then I will get a new iphone...no point buying it for superior user experience in an important sphere and then feel frustrated as the end result.

Why is my column browser greyed/grayed out in iTunes 11??
