How do I pair my MacBook Air to my bluetooth headset?

Everything I find is about pairing a bluetooth device to the MacBook Air, not my BT headset to the device ... the MacBook Air. So, how do I pair my BT headset to my Air?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iPhone 4

I used to fly the unfriendlies too (USAF). OK, be safe out there. Thanks for serving! 😎 Best of luck with your BT device.

BTW, let me just make sure I did all I could with your question. Here's what I can think of off hand to pair it to a 2nd device. Just wanna confirm you did all of this:

- get it into pairing mode (however you do that for a 2nd pairing)

- go to computer's BT pull-down menu and look for "Set Up Bluetooth Device" from the same pull-down menu. For my Mountain Lion s/w, that's the pull-down menu near the battery power indicator and clock.

- if it finds it, try to pair it. That's the part I can't recall what I had to do when I paired my 2nd device.

Good luck.

Actuall LousyFool what one needs to do is go to preferences and select bluetooth. While in the bluetooth pairing screen, with the headset in paring mode, click on the plus sign at the bottom of the screen. It then will direct you to another page which will show other bluetooth devices. Then your headset should show, and all you do is click on your device. Viola! For you information, the my headset didn't show on the first page either.

FYI, my headset didn't show on the first page of the bluetooth menu screen, perhaps because it had already been paired with my phone. Anywho, I hope this helps someobdy!

Check your Bluetooth Headset device On/Off Button. Most of the time once you press the "on", continue to hold down while your Mac Air is in discovery mode.

HOLD the "on" button down and button usually changes/flashes blue color to pair with the Air as you do so. Just hold down the "on" button until it pairs.

You may have to make sure the headsets are off first, then retry. They key is holding down the "on" button while you are pairing, don't let it up during turn-on.

Hope this works for all....

You've likely solved this issue by now, but I've been through a few posts about this issue and found the answer to be:

With the MacBook on, and bluetooth on (but headphones off) you simply need to press and hold the headphones power button
down for a couple more seconds longer then is required to turn them on. That extra two seconds or so must do something that
the MacBook picks up because the bluetooth headphones will immediately pop-up in the MacBook bluetooth devices window.

Just click the "pair" button and you're done.

And I agree with Michael12000, LousyFool is apparently a Mac enthusiast, but the posts seemed rather arrogant and not at all helpful.

I found this thread trying to solve my own pairing issue. My MacBook was not detecting my bluetooth headphones. The trick is that the bluetooth device must be in pairing mode before the mac can detect it. Devices do not automatically enter pairing mode just because they have been powered on. How pairing mode is enabled depends on the device. Consult your device's manual or manufacturer's website if you don't remember how to turn on pairing mode. In the case of my headphones, I had to hold down the volume up button and another button on the headphones control module at the same time.

My headphone are Bose AE Soundlink Around Ear Bluetooth Headphones.

I disagree with you. Michael12000 was frustrated and contentious this entire thread - he attacked Lousyfool with his first reply to him, then wouldn't stop - got personal and insulting. Lousyfool was helping with the very small amount of information he had and seemed completely detached, didn't name call nor enable the OP in the spitting war the OP clearly wanted to start. Let's be respectful on these forums.

Have you figured this out yet? I just wanted to tell you how I did mine (I was having the same issue).. Whenever you bring up the bluetooth settings or whatever on your Mac, it will give you a list of things available.. Mine for the longest time wouldn't show up the headphones.. Until I brought it up then pressed the button on my headphones that makes it available, or able to find something else.. (I am sure all BT headphones have a button like this).. I held down on the button a couple times and voila, it showed up and let me pair it...
