Hey,

I have been recently adding songs to iTunes and it has worked fine. But suddenly it stopped working, the songs appear to be added tyo iTunes are nowhere to be found in iTunes. Does anyone have a solution? And no, i dont have iTunes Match.

My problem is very similar. I've treiud ALL the fixes described in this thread and none of them repair whatever is broken.

Since I know all of my music is intact, at least file by file, would it be advisable to copy all of my music to another drive, wipe my itunes library and start from scratch? Maybe even including in this process, uninstalling itunes, redownloading it and create a new library of music?

The additional weirdness in my case is that if I look in my music library I see a number of albums I've added since upgrading to itunes 11. But when I look at the music that is on my iphone these albums are not on my iphone.

Also, since trying all of the fixes in this thread I now do not see a number of albums that had lived on an older iphone, had been deleted long ago but I kept the files. Looking at the directory where itunes lives, I do not see these albums.

Based on the discussion and what I've heard from other Mac Geek Gab listeners who have this problem, it seems like iTunes has some sort of a cache that — in some cases — gets stuck (as in things go in but don't immediately come out!).

With that, it's reasonable to posit that clearing iTunes' cache would provide a solution. To do so:

1) Quit iTunes (and all of your other apps since you'll be restarting)

2) Go to your [home]/Library/Caches folder (simplest way to get to [home]/Library is to hold down Option and choose "Library" from the Finder's "Go" menu)

3) delete the com.apple.iTunes folder

4) Restart your Mac (probably not necessary, but better safe)

5) Launch iTunes and try again.

Curious to see if that helps. I don't have the problem here so am unable to test (but will file this away in case I ever need to try it! 😉).

Had the same problem, running iTunes 11.0.1 on OS 10.8.2. Tried:

  • logging in/out of iTunes Store
  • stopping/starting Genius
  • making sure iTunes match was off
  • confirming that iTunes media folder location was pointed to the right place in Preferences>Advanced
  • deleting iTunes store cache through Preferences>Advanced
  • deleting cache through method described two posts above by Dave the Nerd

all to no avail.

Songs that I added were showing up through the search feature in iTunes, and were definitely in my iTunes music folder, but I could not see them anywhere in the list/album/etc. interface.

Finally solved this by essentially forcing a rescan of iTunes music folder (i.e. folder selected as "iTunes media folder location" (I have the box checked in Preferences to let iTunes "keep music organized.") Did this through File>Add to Library, and then hitting Open for the folder that keeps all of my music in it, which popped up by default. (In my case: /Users/myUserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music)

This got all of my missing recent adds to show up, also brought in some duplicates of other things, which I easily deleted by going to View>Show Duplicates, sorting by date added, and deleting what had just been brought in as a dupe.

Hope this helps someone!

Not Sure if this is related but searching on your discussion helped me work out my problem.

To add/import Multiple Folders at once to iTunes, i had to do the following:

When in Option --> Music

- click on the new doodah pulldown in the top left corner

- select "Show Menu Bar"

- menu bar appears

- click on File (in menu bar)

- click on Add Folder to Library...

- select the folders you want to add ( you can select multiple folders here)

- click Select Folder

- click convert (if you wish)
