Cannot import movies in iTunes 11

For some reason, I cannot import any movies in iTunes 11. I've read other threads where it says imported movies go to the "Home Movies" section but nothing shows up there. When I look in my iTunes music directory on my hard drive, there is a "Home Movies" sub directory and my imported movies have been copied there but they have not been incorporated into the iTunes library and do not show up anywhere. Help!!! I want to watch some movies on my Apple TV. Previous version of iTunes worked perfect, why is it screwing up now?

I have had and resolved all the above reasons you cannot import a movie into itunes. Here is a new one.

Go to Prefrences>Advanced>itunes media folder location. If the proper location is not listed itunes cannot import anything. This is important always but more so when you have multiple hard drives. I use several 4 tera byte hard drives. itunes media folder points to the Music which contains an alias Movies which points to a different hard drive and also contains an alias TV Shows which points to a third hard drive. That enables me to have a seperate 4 terabyte hard drive for each catagory. Soon I will need all 6 terabyte hard drives...it never ends, it only gets bigger....

I just deployed iTunes 11.2 - a fresh install - to my Windows 2008 server so I could use Home Sharing for my movies, TV shows, and music. When I installed iTunes, I imported the folder where all my media was (including the Movies subfolder, etc.).

Music, TV shows, and podcasts all imported but not the movies. Weird. I manully tried to import a couple of the movie files. Nothing. The little "importing" progress window opened, but nothing showed in iTunes.

SOLUTION: When I downloaded iTunes, I ONLY got iTunes. I needed to also run the Apple Software Update software to install Quicktime. After that installed, I was able to import the movies into iTunes.

Thought I'd let you all know in case this helps anyone.

OMG - thank you apple for making this sooooooo hard. After waiting 2 days for the videos to appear in itunes (the files were in the corect file structure - nothing!!!!

But a huge thanks to GogoGadget69 - your solution was the only that worked for me.

I had to import file to library first - and it added it to the Recently Added section. Then I did your Get Info and change to Movie - finally they are there. Starting to thinknever do another itunes update! I cant be bothered re-learning how to do these things
