Cannot Sync Ipod Classic with Itunes 11

After installing Itunes 11, I cannot sync my Ipod Classic. It has worked perfectly up until this version. Here are the options I like:

Open Itunes when... -- ON

Sync only checked... -- OFF

Convert higher... ON (128) (I have a LOT of music I like to fit on this little ipod)

Manually manage... -- OFF

Enable Disk Use... -- OFF

I have tried restoring the ipod and resyncing everything, but that doesn't work eiter.

I also got some errors about not being able to copy some podcasts (like 100 of them) when I tried syncing after restoring, but I have seen that before and just ignored it and it still gets stuck.

It gets stuck around song 5, I've left it running for two days and still no progress. Even checking "On this iPod" shows me that no songs have sync'd.

Help?

Exactly the same problem except I have gone further. I tried to restore thinking that the new version had compatibility problems with the iPods software. Now it locks up in the middle and my iPod won't work. Still working on this. Aside from these lovely frustrating chats, does anyone have a phone line to a body in real time that can help out of their software problems?

So I am trying a different approach tonight. I selected two genres that I want to sync. They total a bit over 2,000 songs. I deselected the option to convert to a higher bit rate. Then I started sync. So far it is working -- up to 334 of 2,153 songs. This is the farthest I have gotten so far. I, too, am syncing a 160 GB iPod classic from a Windows 7 (64-bit) computer.

I used to have a problem with pre-11 versions of iTunes, but I figured out it would have problems syncing if my iPod was paused or in the middle of playing a playlist. I had a routine where I'd play a 1 song album right before syncing just so it wasn't playing anything, and then I never had any troubles again.....

Until now with iTunes 11....tried to sync my iPad last night and of course it shows up as "corrupt"and must restore. I have 16k songs so I let it restore overnight, figuring it'd be done in the morning (I've done this before as a result of the problem in the 1st paragraph and having to restore several times in the past). I work up this morning assuming it was done, deleted a playlist I didn't want anymore, and synced again thinking it would take 1 minute to sync & remove the playlist. Sudddenly it started syncing like 10k songs. I gave up and went to work and now see that there's only a fraction of my library on my iPod. What a joke!

I really don't think the sidebar makes any difference, it's just a view to make the transition to iTunes 11 easier. Tonight I am going to see if the upgrade to 11.0.1 helps & try the previous posters suggestion of plugging in the iPod without having iTunes open and see if that helps it recognize and sync better.

It's really unacceptable how difficult it is to own an iPod classic. It's like Apple just ignores them. Not everyone wants a pretty little colorful iPod with a tiny hard drive.

I can now sync my ipod classic. I did two things, so I'm not sure which one fixed it. My problem was that I couldn't sync my ipod classic since upgrading to 11.0. It would hang on the second song. I changed my sync options to "manually manage music and videos" and copied all outstanding syncs to ipod. (the "recently added" playlist helped me determine which songs had not been synced. Once this was done, I changed back to "sync only checked songs and videos" and confirmed that there were no more outstanding syncs. I then shut down itunes and as per Bromanian's suggestion, I hooked up the ipod while itunes was shut down. After bringing itunes back up, I added a couple of albums and synced them to the ipod with no problem. I've synced four more albums with no problem. I'm also converting to 128 kbs. I haven't upgraded to 11.0.1 yet so I'm not sure if that fixes problem or not. Hope this helps.

I have an iPod classic like you guys. Working fine until I updated to iTunes 11. Will I never learn!

Have worked my way through all of the steps in the guide but no good.

When I connect the Ipod it initially appears in Computer but then disconnects and is not listed as a device.

It does not show up at all in the iTunes sidebar and if I run diagnostics it says there is no iPod connected.

Any suggestions?

Dave

Unfortunately, the update to 11.0.1.12 did not fix the sync problem for me on my Windows 7 workstation and 160GB iPod Classic. If I deselect the option to convert higher bit rate songs to 128 or 192, I can sync selected genres -- up to what will fit on the iPod. But I try to convert higher bit rate songs, the sync hangs. It is no longer hanging on 2 -- it is now hanging on 52 (convert to 128) or 53 (convert to 192). Yes, my sidebar is displayed -- doesn't seem to make a difference. Yes, my status is displayed -- doesn't seem to make a difference. Hope Apple keeps working on the problem!

So, I responded earlier with how I got my ipod to sync, but that was a one-time thing. I tried again last night and ran into the same error. I tried reproducing the workaround I did before (sync with Manually manage music and enable disk use turned on), but that didn't work. So I gave up and went to sleep. This morning, on a whim, I reconnected my ipod and it sync'd perfectly.

I don't think there is any pattern we can follow to workaround this bug in iTunes 11, I just hope it is fixed before I decide to scrap this thing and get another type of portable music device.

I think I am having a similar problem.

I can't quite work out what is going on, but since I installed iTunes 11 both of my iPod Classics (80 and 160 gb) are having all kinds of problems. They don't/won't sync properly, sometimes they are almost all synced and then the iPod suddenly can't be recognised; I am getting lots of weird error messages. I have tried restoring both of them and that doesn't seem to help. Very frustrating indeed.

I am using OS 10.8.2... so, as up-to-date as possible. Would love to hear when Apple has sorted out this problem. At least I now know that I'm not the only one having these kinds of issues.

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Have had the same problems with my iPod Touch 2nd generation. These posts have been a bid help and by now compressing tracks I have managed to sync but jad to clear a load of music off the iPod. All this to get the Christmas music on. Am not happy with iTunes 11 or the obvious lack of testing Apple, I've wasted half a day on this!
