Cannot Sync Ipod Classic with Itunes 11

After installing Itunes 11, I cannot sync my Ipod Classic. It has worked perfectly up until this version. Here are the options I like:

Open Itunes when... -- ON

Sync only checked... -- OFF

Convert higher... ON (128) (I have a LOT of music I like to fit on this little ipod)

Manually manage... -- OFF

Enable Disk Use... -- OFF

I have tried restoring the ipod and resyncing everything, but that doesn't work eiter.

I also got some errors about not being able to copy some podcasts (like 100 of them) when I tried syncing after restoring, but I have seen that before and just ignored it and it still gets stuck.

It gets stuck around song 5, I've left it running for two days and still no progress. Even checking "On this iPod" shows me that no songs have sync'd.

Help?

Hi Rick,

Sorry about the late reply - weekend kind of got in the way 🙂

I'm converting to 128kbps for my iPhone (to cram as many tracks in as possible). However, I manage to squeeze them all in (22000+) at 192kbps on my iPod Classic 160 GB. All still running fine for me on iTunes 11.

Hope my response helps - let me know if you have any additional questions.

Ciao,

Cleto

Hi Cleto

Thanks for your reply.

As you didn't seem to be having problems with iTunes 11 any more I decided to take the plunge.

All seems fine so far. It didn't trash my iPod Classic when I plugged it in. I have since been changing the selection on the iPod as it still doesn't all fit even at 128kbps. I've also been adding new stuff to it and everything seems to be working as it should.

Nice of Apple to tell us it was all fixed on the release notes ( 😮 ) but the main thing is that seems to be functional now.

All the best

Rick

Hi

I had the same problem when i upgraded to itunes 11 (OS Mac 10.6.8). I coundn't understand when my Classic 160gb synched my music, the ipod crashed and i had to keep restoring to factory settings. The whole scenario went into a loop.

My solution was this, first i deleted everything relating to itunes 11. I then tried to reinstall itunes 10. But i then encountered the following error code -42408. So i followed this link -

www.karthikk.net/2012/12/how-to-fix-itunes-11-error-code-42408-itunes-11-tutoria l/

Then i reinstalled itunes 10 again with success. It came up with a message saying some of my music files could not transfer over to itunes 10. I simply deleted them from my hard disk and itunes. (i must say that those tunes were ones that i converted from youtube).

The unforuante thing is, any music you have copied from or downloaded using itunes 11 will be incompatable and you will have to copy/download again on itunes 10.

Now everything is fine except i'm not using itunes 11 anymore and will be sticking with itunes 10 for the forseeable future.

Hope this helps.

HELP PLEASE!

I have an i-pod classic and it will not connect to itunes 11.

A few months ago my ipod classic decided to delete all of its songs from itself.

When I plug it into my computer it stays on connected, eject before disconnecting screen and the arrows repeatedly circle and then the little plug keeps showing up and it just keeps doing this and will not change screens.

It will not show any connection with Itunes 11 when plugged in, nothing will come up showing the ipod is plugged in so I cant change settings, Ive tried resetting my ipod and all it resets is the settings. I've tried everyones ideas, its just not workings. Someone please help me! WHY wont it work, connect, sync?????

Hi Hipcat93, just wanna let you know, you're not alone;

I have an iPod Classic 120GB, running Windows 8 & Itunes 11....

I had to reset & restore my iPod (ie wipe it) uninstall Itunes 11 & make sure I'd installed the x64 bit version on my new Sony Vaio E Series Laptop & somehow, renamed my iPod's drive letter to ' i ' & somehow.... I got my ipod to fully sync tonight ( 2445 tracks & 12 TV Eps ), just the once.

Then I ejected the iPod, Downloaded an additional Album off my cloud ( I wanted to check the sync was not a fluke ) re-connected the iPod, And guess what...... ITUNES 11 DOES NOT RECOGNISE MY iPod Classic, yet Again !!!! 😟 Grrrr @#$%^&* - So I'm afraid to say, ITUNES 11 *****!!!! never ever had these problems with syncing previous, but then again - I've never been running Windows 8 before now on a new purchased Vaio either..... A hate to say it, but I cant wait for an apple fix . or patch OR next release edition which hopefully resolves these bugs.... Signing off, & I feel you're pain...... you are not alone

Hi all

Not sure if this thread went old. However, I sorted out my issue as follows...

Last week I had no succes. I went through this thread and I simply could not get my iPod Classic to show up on my Mac Mini. After I tried hooking it up to my Imac to no avail. Yesterday I decided this has got to be a joke....

I noted issues for some people with "Disk Use". I had no idea how to activate and deactivate this, since I could not see the iPod in iTunes..... Anyways this is how: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363

Actually what you do is:

1) Reset iPod and while booting

2) You activate Disk Mode according to the link

After my last week challenges iPod started to behave very weird, so i charged it from a power plug and mean while I simply reset the iPod a couple of times. All of a sudden it had light in the display again and seemed OK

Now I plugged it into Mac Mini again and for the first time it did show up in iTunes.

- I made a reestablish iPod

- I made a look for new software

- I made a sync to my clean installed Mac Mini

Over night I transferred 8.000 songs in 256kbps with DISK Mode active

iPod Classic 120GB

Itunes 11 - the latest at time of writing

Maverick OS

I believe the resetting several times did the trick !????!!!

If anyone is still having problems I factory reset by plugging in and pressing the select and menu button and then selecting reset. The problem was then syncing, so I used the idea in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNL4ICK_Gk8 by dragging across one song from the library to the device. Once one song is on the ipod you can then go on the ipod tab/on this device tab and on the music section you can change it from the one sonf that was maually added and select add whole library. I'm so happy I got it to work, really didn't want to buy a new ipod/ couldn't afford one. Hope this helps anyone that needs it, if my explanation isn't clear i'm sorry, but let me know and I will try and explain again! If the link to the video doesn't work its titled "Itunes 11 tutorial: how to sync songs to your iphone, ipad or ipod"

I have an 80GB Classic that wouldn't work with iTunes 11 whatever i tried. I uninstalled iTunes11 and re installed iTunes10 from here http://www.oldversion.com/windows/download/itunes-10-7-x64 and now it works fine.

You will need to manually find and delete your iTunes library files (*.itl) which will be wherever your music library is saved before you open iTunes10 or you may get an error.

Had original problem like the OP. I couldn't even restore the iPod Classic 80GB half the time, as it would restore then just show 0kb space. I was frustrated. I went, on a Mac, to my User/Music/iTunes, and renamed the folder to iTunesKeep as I had all my playlists and songs in there and hated to lose all that work. I then found a way to uninstall iTunes using Terminal in Utilities folder. I then installed iTunes 10.7 and had similar problems. I was mad. But I kept going and decided that iTunes 10.7 found the iPod and did restore it and some songs could load, but then would crash or hang up or get the spinning wheel. So I hit UPDATE while in 10.7 and it did. When iTunes came up, I first RESTARTED the computer. After the restart of my computer, I then restored the iPod, again, and then went to my User/Music/iTunes and changed the iTunes folder to iTunesNew and changed the iTunesKeep back to iTunes (the folder with all my music and playlists). I then synced my iPod and it was lightning fast and all worked and all my music was there.

I concluded on thing, and even seem to remember this when I had problems a long time ago with my 4th gen iPod and iTunes.... which is once you reload iTunes, do not do anything else till you RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. I think a lot of people get the errors like all of a sudden the iPod can't read or write or can read song on hdd or hangs on song 2, or won't restore iPod, is that you loaded iTunes and started using it without Restarting the computer. I think if I would have done this step first, then the errors would not have happened. And then yes, sync is lightning fast.
