Error Code -2

My sound hasn't been working lately in garageband. I posted a question a while back which was answered but the solution ( deleting the garageband related .cs and .plist files and restarting) worked for the first couple launches and then stoped working again. Now i updated and the sound didn't work again so I tryed what i had been doing. Now when i launch Garageband i get an error that says "Error code -2 was returned by the CoreAudio driver" I don't absolutely need garageband, but I would like to be able to play with it again. If someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You, ZeTwinkie

are you using plugins or an audio i/o box?
Disconnect the i/o box, and remove all of your plugins and see if you still have this problem. Go to /Library/Audio/Plugins for this.

I get this kind of error, but it's harmless, It's due to the fact that I have a demo plugin that timed out and won't load. Not saying this is your problem, but error -2 from Core Audio must be some error about loading a device or plugin. GB itself isn't generating this message.

Steve F and others, let me join the club: the Mac mini reports this problem:

Error Code -2 was returned by the CoreAudio Driver

I also find that on a user account no tracks are being shown when opening a project. On the Admin account, tracks are shown, but we are not getting sound in either account.

As this occurred immediately after the update, and my PowerBook, updated at the same time is fine, there seems to be a conflict in the Mac mini. I am just about to try an eMac to see if that is similarly effected.

ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine who has a Mac Mini G4 said that when this happened to him he checked his GarageBand audio i/o preferences and they were set to 'no driver selected'.
All he did was select the correct output device (built-in in this case) and it worked.
HOWEVER!! He had weird behavior with the song he created at first (when the 'no driver' was selected). So you should not save any changes to any songs until you select the correct driver - and then re-launch GarageBand.

Give Synth Fan a couple of stars. I made a special trip into my office to check that last message, and sure enough, with the Mac mini (the PowerBook G4 and the eMac are both unaffected) opening the I/O preferences showed that with Audo Output no drivers were found (Input also had no drivers but the button was greyed out). Changing that, and restarting Garage Band gave me no error message and the tracks were all created as normal.

My thanks.

I also had the error code on my Mini. I was able to solve the problem thanks to Synth Fan. However, now I can not start a new project. When I click the button for a new project, it just cycles me back to the main window. I can open existing projects. Any thoughts?

I've had Macs for 15 years, and have never had a problem from an update from Apple before.
