Apple Macbook Pro 15 Retina dead pixel explosion

I have a 3 month old MBP Retina 15.

The display but has been plagued with problems. The 1st screen started developing 3 dead pixels (2 larger) at 1.5 months and the Regent St store arranged a replacement display. The duty supervisor on the day said 'dead pixels are normal' and 'these are very hard displays to get right'. They are not encouraging it is not 'normal' for a new laptop costing £1800 to develop such issues.

The 2nd screen has now developed a dead pixel explosion. It was 4 the last time I counted. Such screen degradation is very worrying and I notice some other forum members have experienced similar issues. I would assume it is a certain batch of displays that is causing this issue?

If the display didn't degrade so quickly, I could say it was an excellent laptop with superb display clarity but I can't in the circumstances. I have now booked a 2nd appointment at the genius bar and I don't wish to be told again that this is to be expected with such displays. Apple have a reputation to uphold on quality and reliability. I've never had these issues with my Thinkpads over the years.

Apple offers a 14 day from date of purchase No Questions Asked return policy. After that 14 days is up it is YOUR computer and Apple will only Fix what "THEY", Not You, think is wrong with it.

Just look through all the posts on all the forums here. You will find many that have some type of problem with the Apple product and when taken to an Apple Genius Bar they are told "We don't see anything wrong" and are sent on their way.

I just purchased a MBP 13", but the model prior to the Retina display mostly for the price, but also to wait until the new models prove themselves out. This is my first Mac and I decide to it based on my good experiences with the iPhone and iPad. However after reading this and some of the other threads I am wondering it I made a good decision to purchase one. How about some comments to boost my confidence now?

I know that all brands have some lemons and all companies have some bad days, but I hope Apple hasn't gotten a bit to over confident.

Apple support asked me to bring my MBP to the Covent Garden store to verify the latest screen. In fairness they have now agreed to a brand new replacement unit and not put me through a 3rd screen replacement. I will also get a 12 month warranty from the date of receipt. I am keeping my fingers crossed that no futher things happen as it would be hard going back to choosing other laptops where the displays seem quite fuzzy after using this the 15" Retina.

Crhobbs lots of people have good experiences with the MBP and I would not worry unduly. It is possible a small % of the new Retinas were faulty. At least Apple seem to show some commitment to after-sales and I doubt your screen will manifest such issues. Sometimes a new generation model can have some teething problems. At least Apple have treated me fairly and I hope others don't have to keep going through constant screen replacements where they have had a similar experience to me.
