Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

"Project view" : cannot organize projects any longer (Aperture 3.4.3)

"If you organize your projects in folders in the Library inspector, you can group your projects by the folders they reside in" (Aperture 3.4 manual, p. 45, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Aperture_3_User_Manual.pdf)

—> doesn't work any longer by me (nor the "by-year organization" of the projects)

"Year" and "Folder" buttons are ineffective by me (though not greyd)

What happens when you select "Year" or "Folder" by clicking the icons?

Is the search field in the upper-right corner of the border of the Projects pane clear?

Have you closed Aperture, rebooted, and re-launched Aperture?

Luky,

please compare your systems with the poster's system in this thread

Re: aperture

; you seem to have exactly the same problem, and it would be good to know, if this is a bug realated to certain Macs only:

Léonie

P.S: The error message you are seeing in the Console Window is a message "Invalid context" is a message from OpenGL libraries, that may occur in Full Screen View. Are you using full screen view? I only use it when adjusting images.

Thanks a lot Leonie !

Bernard454 and I actually seem to have the same problem : I'm feeling a little less lonely, such a relief ;-)

The "only remaining mistery" ;-) might be that *you* don't have the problem whereas Bernard, the 2012 iMacs at the Apple store and I do have it... ?!?

PS : yes I'm using full screen view on my alternate monitors ("Visualiseur secondaire" in the French version)

Could you please check two things:

  • Do the buttons "Group by Year" and "Group by Folder" work, when you disconnect the secondary display and exit "Full Screen" mode?
  • Do the buttons "Group by Year" and "Group by Folder" work, when you set your System Preferences "Language & Text" to "English"? You will have to log off and on again, after changing the preferences for this change to be effective.

PPS : http://discussions.apple.com/thread/4570016?answerId=20518321022#20518321022 (lucky.lucb) and http://discussions.apple.com/thread/4580344?answerId=20518324022#20518324022 (bernard454) should be linked, or even merged, shouldn't they ? Is it possible ?

They are already linked - if you look to the right, there is a link to Bernard's thread in the "Incoming Links" section.

Let's continue the discussion here and post any solutions in Bernard's thread too.

Lucky, that's it!

I set my system to "Français" in "langue et texte" and now I cannot use

the buttons "Group by Year" and "Group by Folder" any longer, just like you. 😠

Does the problem vanish, if you set your system to "English"?

So there is a bug in the localization files.

Kirby, if you still are listening, could you please confirm this?

Cheers

Léonie

Added: Do the error messages in the Console window stop, if you disable "Full Screen" mode?

Yes it does :-)

(as said in Bernard454's thread)

Thank you very much Leonie

PS : as for the invalid context / alternate monitors, thanks to you again I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact I'm using TWO alternate monitors (three screens on a whole) on my iMac, one of them plugged on a USB port through a USB display adapter. But I must say I'm quite seriously tired of experiencing on Aperture these days so right now I'm just going to enjoy the "end" of the Project organization bug 🙂 Please don't blame me 🙂

Thank you very much Leonie

You are welcome. That is great! One mistery solved 😁

Newby question : how can we be reasonably sure that the Apple guys have noticed this bug ?

Use Aperture's feedback form to send a bug report to Apple:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html

I already filed a bug report as well - the more, the merrier!

Cheers
