MacBook Pro Screen Covered in Grimy Spit -- Ideas?

So, honestly, I haven't cleaned my 2011 MacBook Pro 13" for a year -- properly, at least -- and now the screen has some blotches and lines of grime...I'm assuming a mix of sneezing, spit, and oil from hands when the screen is closed. Three questions:


1.) Do I really need to remove the battery? Taking apart the computer makes me nervous!


2.) Can you recommend anything more than water? I'm not sure just wate rwill cut through the grime. Also, maybe multiple times using water?


3.) Is warm water OK? I feel like warm water would make things dissolve better?
