iTunes 11 Freezing and consuming RAM

Since updating iTunes 11 on a iMac the software freezes. The iMacs 4Gb of ram is half consumed with active memory and half with inactive. The rainbow spinning wheel spins away and the computer is near unusable. The entire operating system comes to a screeching halt until iTunes is force closed freeing up the RAM.
Ideas anyone?
Is it possible to rollback the update?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I don't know why iTunes 11 on my mac using OSX SL keeps freezing everytime I open it. I needed to wait like half an hour to resume iTunes and use the computer. It is really freezing for a long time. Now I am compelled to not shut down the mac and when there's power interruption, I open my mac and iTunes and wait for half an hour to make it usable again.

I am beginning to contemplate to just throw this machine and shift to PC. I want to smash it with a big hammer and burn it.
