Dan 3g?

In the upper left hand corner, next to the signal strength indicator, where it once said ATT 3g, it now says Dan 3g! Even when I turn on the wifi it still says Dan. Someone help!

It is the older SIM cards that are affected. It is isolated to older SIM cards associated to 717 numbers. It has to do with technicalities related to some testing / upgrading there towers. Whatever the technical reason, there is a newer SIM card for the traditional sim and there is a newer micro sim as well. The new sims came put when AT&T got LTE in some markets. No one with the newer sims are affected. If you don't believe me and you have an iPhone 4, take it out and compare it to the sim of someone's iPhone that doesn't say Dan on it. They sims are different colors and you'll understand that the non LTE sims are the ones affected. The iPhone 4S and 5 ship with a new sim in them and have since they came out. There is a newer regular sim that will work that's LTE capable, it's what the first Samsung note uses. Peace out people, stop debating the issue. Even apple care manager thanked me for figuring this one out and said they will share with other areas if arts issue starts popping up in other markets.

I have a iPhone 4s and mine said Dan on it also. That was about 2 hours ago. I turned phone off and back on and it went back to att then to mcell. Note i should have been on mcell the whole time as I barely get service at my house. On mcell i have full bars, on dan i have 2-3. And wouldnt you know that as i'm typing this message it switched back to dan??? Dont figure:(

Just got home and saw that my wife's 4 is showing the Dan network in a 717 area code. So this is what I know so far. Everyone is in the 717 area code.

Mine - iPhone 5 - AT&T

Sisters - iPhone 4 - Dan

Fathers - iPhone 4 - AT&T

Best Friend - iPhone 4S - AT&T

Best Friend's Wife - iPhone 4S - AT&T

Wife's (same accound as mine) - iPhone 4 - Dan

Mother's - iPhone 4 - AT&T

Doesn't seem to be any relation to phone version or account information. It does seem to be married to the 717 area code.

I agree with you, System.out.printin!

I have an newer AT&T 3G iPad with a (717) assigned number and it is not affected by the issue. This proves the SIM card theory is true and it is isolated to phones within the local area code.

Whatever the issue ends up being - AT&T will acknowledge it, resolve it and will continue operating as it normally would. This area had a similar issue like this (without the "Dan" name) when they were upgrading their cell tower equipment to 3G a few years ago. Nothing to be alarmed about this time around, no conspiracies are taking place either.

When I called AT&T last night the rep told me they did not know what the problem was. If a simple sim card issue why not just tell me to go to the store? I had the DAN last night but my wife and son, who have same phone, did not. This morning my wife now has the DAN network. As such, this problem is ongoing not ending. AT&T could just text me to go to the store for a new sim card, but I assume they would not have enough. Great inforamtion provided. Thank you.

I am also in the 717 area code and woke up to DAN. As a side note: Reading and York PA went live with 4G LTE at midnight on 12/4. I do believe that as the diagnostic tests are being done, this would cause Sir DAN to show up on our phones, but AT&T should be able to fix this problem remotely. I do not want to be bothered by having to replace my SIM card when they are the ones with the faulty network.
