When I try to sign in to iCloud using the iCloud Control Panel, it says that my password is for an Apple account, not for an iCloud account. How do I create an iCloud password?

I just created an new Apple ID and tried logging into iCloud with it, like I did with my Apple ID. I never created a iCloud account for myself, I just logged in with my apple ID. I don't even have iCloud in my system preferences... but I got in.

Which version of OSX do you have?

I have 10.6.8.... but somehow I got in iCloud and created a calendar and ivited 3 people to share it. One already replied, and my other friend is trying to get in on his PC (the one I tried to help out on my mac), and the 3rd one has an iphone but I haven't heard from him yet.

I have no idea how you managed that, iCloud is not compatible with 10.6.8 so you can not create an iCloud account using it (That explains part of the problem at least). The minimum supported version is 10.7.2. I am afraid that I can not offer any help for a 10.6.8 installation.

Do you have an IOS device possibly (iPhone/iPad etc)

I have an ipod touch but I never use it, and I doubt its up to date on version

You need a Mac that is compatible with iCloud, that means Lion (10.7.2 min) or Mountain Lion (10.8.x)

Are you sure that you created this account on 10.6.8, how, without iCloud available in the system preferences how did you do it?

all I did was go to the www.icloud.com and logged in with my apple ID and password. Then I created an iCloud calendar. Maybe its just my lucky day! 😉

Go have lunch, while you're out sidle over to an Apple Store, create the account on one of the display Macs, make sure not to save any passwords and sign out when done, that's all I have.
