iPhone 5 Bluetooth Audio / Video sync delay?

I currently have an iPhone 5 and have tried 2 different bluetooth headsets with it. Both of them have a noticeable lag or a/v sync issue. My previous iPhone 4 had no issues. The video content is stored on my iPhone 5 (not streaming) and plays fine when using wired headphones, but with bluetooth there is a big lag in the audio and it makes watching video on it with bluetooth headphones unbearable!!

The 2 bluetooth headphones I have tried are the Motorola S9 and currently the Plantronics BackBeat GO.

Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

This seems to be an iPhone 5 problem!

The problem persists, but there is a tolerable work-around. Through much trial and error, I have found I can convince my iPhone 5 to sync audio and video nearly perfectly.

First, start watching a video or on your iPhone.

Then press the pause button on your bluetooth headset so that the video pauses.

Then turn off the screen by pressing the on/off switch on the upper right side corner.

With the screen off, press the pause button again on your bluetooth headset. You should hear the audio track playing only with no picture on the iPhone (dark display).

Allow the audio to play through your bluetooth headset for at least a minute or two, then press the Home button on the iPhone and enter your unlock code if you have one. Once you unlock you should be back to your video.

The video may speed up a bit to get in sync with the audio, but once it does it will be nearly perfectly synced to the audio. I say nearly because it could still be off by 1/10th of a second, but that is much more tolerable than what we started with.

If this technique works for anyone else, please tell us about it.

Cheers.

I also have had this problem with iphone5 since day 1. The audio/video never plays in sync on my 2013 Honda Accord. It is so frustrating and I have tried every tricks and tips on internet such as pausing and locking the screen, and changing the output mode to speaker then back to bluetooth again, etc. but none of them has worked. The audio always, without any exception, plays 2 seconds later when it is connected via bluetooth. It is so much frustrating that one user on web has commented, "bluetooth audio/iphone5? Thing that makes you wanna punch so hard onanything." I totally understand his fury and after searching many hours for solutions or Apple's official response, I have become to agree with him as well. It is a thing that makes you wanna punch so hard on anything. A lot of users have mentioned that iPhone4s work flawlessly, so I assume it maybe a hardware problem on iPhone5s. Since I have not seen anyone mentioning it working perfectly without having to use any tricks, so iphone5 has this audio/video sync problem with most bluetooth audio devices. What's even more frustrating is Apple has never responded with this issue. I'm pretty sure Apple already knows the issue with bluetooth. However, looking at the Apple's silent support Nd its inability to resolve the issue even with iOS7, I shall understand this as Apple just has no idea how to fix this?

If someone knows the solution to this problem, please share!!!

I still think apple lacks in a lot of sections related to user freedom but improvements must be noted.

I too updated to ios7 and the issue so far appears to be gone.

I tested it with:

VIDEO STREAM (fantastic app that streams video from pc to iphone)

Youtube app(which trully ***** but apple doesnt care)

And ProTuber which is the best youtube app ever made!!!

But even when typing, the sound of the keys seems to be synvhronized unlike before where you could have taken a bathroom brake and come back to listen to the keyboard tone on your bluetooth :-)

Ps. Im using sony erricsson mw600 bluetooth but I think thats irrelevant.

Problem appears to be solved on ios7.

I just found out in another forum that playing video in the connected device and streaming audio via BT in vehicle inevitably lags because the unavoidable process in which vehicle's BT audio system receiving, filtering, sending audio data requires time to finish.

So bluetooth basically stinks. Slow and inefficient if I have understood it correctly. Its range is short and consumes significant amount of battery power. Plus I have not seen a bluetooth that has customizable settings where its users can change settings to their preferences. I guess this is also the bandwidth issue but with the HD voice phone calls already being on service in some countries, bluetooth needs an upgrade or be replaced. It's been said that while talking on HD calls, they would receive the audio from the other person with a delay of a second or two making the crystal clear phone call experience somewhat awkward.

Hello Monte,

IOS 9.1 (iPhone & iPad) and BeoPlay H8 does the same for me years later. Your workaround helps bring the delay to tolerable. I'm still tempted to return the headphones to Apple Store, for I think it's still unacceptable.

Longest delays are during streaming video (Netflix) where 'AirPlay' is mirroring to the BeoPlay H8, but saved/local video has some noticeable delay. Corded headphones have no issue.
