iTunes 11: Playlist shuffle sort

In iTunes 11, even though I have a playlist shuffled (and it plays in a shuffled order) I cannot get the actual play order to show. In previous versions of iTunes, I would simply click the header of the top left column and it would show the shuffled play order.

Anyone know a way to restore this functionality?

There's one additional thing you can do. After you create a smart playlist as dronebox suggests, you can then re-randomize it by:

  • Clicking within the song list on the smart playlist
  • Selecting all songs (control A)
  • Delete all songs
  • Edit the smartlist
  • Click OK without changing any parms
  • Voila - new playlist in random order from your 'source' playlist

Smart Playlist with random order from original playlist or source or selection, etc. is the easiest way to do the task

I see the feature became more serious than just "randomise playlist/sort" option previously available

Also, the nice option is to update playlist live, e.g. you have 5Gb on you device and 25Gb of music:

1. create smart playlist with 5Gb limit, randomly

2. shuffle it few times e.g. delete songs as they played out, it will fill up again

3. you have an option to add to the list "least played", together with live updated list you'll get infinite shuffle with all song played pretty similar times

Apple is just another greedy company that only gives a **** about making money. Now that you're hooked, it can do whatever it whats on a whim. With each new 'upgrade' iTunes gets more restrictive, more dumbed down and one gets the feeling design changes are thrown out there willy nilly and approved if they make the program less customizable. They also make it so the end user has to relearn 30% of the new interface. Really sick of it.

Screw 'em. One day a free source program will come out that will be just as gorgeous as iTunes. With VLC, we already got the engine. The future in software lies in the individual, not the corporation. Who needs them?

I NEVER buy any media from Apple. Some of their software is good, I use their computers. Apple used to be a great company. They just get worse and worse and worse. Welcome to Brave New World.

I complain a lot on this forum coz no one else will. A lot of my posts get yanked by the goon dim-witted yes-man moderators here. Speak out, stand up! People like you make Apple- we are the real investors. Someday we'll win.
