Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

New airport extreme and IOS 6.0.1 won't allow access to the app store?

I'm quite perplexed by my situation, and will use all the help I can get!


Bottom line: I have a brand new Airport Extreme that installed perfectly. Wired PC's work; wired Apple TV works; Wired airport express work; wifi works (for the most part.) Here's what's weird: when I connect to wifi with either Iphon5, Iphone 4s, or Ipad2 (all running IOS6.0.1), I cannot run these apps:


* The app store will not open ("Cannot connect to the App store" after about a 30 second wait)

* Facebook times out ("Network error")

* Speedtest.net Mobile (runs the Ping and Download speeds just fine, but completely hangs as it starts the upload test)


A few more facts:

- I can replicate these connection issues at will. It's not intermittant.

- I can run any of these apps on 4g or on any other wifi.

- Browsing the web (Safari), email, stocks, (and many other apps) all work just fine

- I can connect to wifi using any of several laptops (all running windows 7) with no connection issues or limitations, access to itunes store, etc.

- I can use my wired PC (running windows 7) without any issues

- I have rebooted modems, gone back to factory defaults on the Extreme several times and re-installed all the normal settings. I even called Apple support and spent over an hour on the phone with them with experts from both the Airport Extreme department and the IOS department. They also had me do factory resets, re-installs all the while viewing my screen to be sure I wasn't messing up the settings.

- I had a Linksys WRT160N router that I am replacing. I can quickly swap it back in, and all wifi/apps work just fine. (I did this several times just to prove to myself I'm not losing my mind.)


I'm feeling like I'm at the end of my rope. I will probably return this (hassle factor) for another Extreme just to try it, but I'm not optimistic.

Well, after another call with Apple support and the engineers, no success. After spending over 20 hours trying to debug this, I give up. Apple was basically fishing for a solution with trial-and-error settings on the iphone. Then they wanted me to plug in software to log my iphone connections to the router, etc, etc., etc., at which point I decided I no longer wanted to participate in their testing process and will simply return the router.


25 hours of my life I'll never get back.


Big bummer, and frustrating for all the obvious reasons.
