Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network cannot be reached.

Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network cannot be reached. In the last couple of months iTunes has consistently refused to access the CDDB server when I'm trying to import CDs, even though all other internet-reliant functionality works fine (can access iTunes store etc). Have tried turning off home sharing - just really frustrated by this - as a music critic, it's pretty imperative to be able to import and rip CDs without too much stress. Cannot get track names after inserting CD. New problem with iTunes 11?

"Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network cannot be reached.

Make sure your Internet connection is active and your network settings are correct, then try again."

I'm getting exactly the same problem. It seemd to arise after updating to iTunes 11.

Absolutely no problem connecting to Internet, iTunes store, iTunes Match but not to the CDDB database ...

There seem to be a number of similar compalints under different posts here over the course of the last month. But so far no one has psoted a solution as far as I can see.

I had no problems when I upgraded to iTunes 12 and was still running Mavericks on my late 2012 iMac.

I encountered the same problem with connecting to the CDDB server (amongst other unrelated issues) once I upgraded to Yosemite.

Thanks to JWMS1985's solution, I can get CD track names again.

However one question: once iTunes is able to connect to the CDDB server, do I uptick the box for network proxies again or is it ok to leave it ticked?

I had this iTunes problem, used the above mentioned solution (checking Auto Proxy Discovery box, etc.), but soon after started to have some very odd browser problems, becoming unable to access sites I've been using everyday for years. While I am not saying this is directly connected, changing the Auto Proxy Discovery setting was the only alteration I made to my set-up. I cannot vouch for anything that did/didn't happen outside my own network/computer.

Has anyone else had this experience? Are there any other current workarounds for iTunes being unable to access CDDB?

OK, have finally been able to make something else work, besides toggling the Auto Proxy Discovery button (this seemed to give me other problems). The basic idea is to throw out out your iTunes preferences. I followed the steps in the doc linked below, specifically targeting the iTunes .plist files, rebooted (zapping the PRAM as well), and voila, I was able to get CDDB access again as normal. Let me know if this works for you!
