Macbook Pro wifi invalid password problem

Have a strange problem with my MacBook wifi connection in that everytime I connect my MacBook Pro to the wifi router it requires a WPA2 password. I type in the password to join only to be told it is an invalid password, however, if I keep repeatedly clicking on the submit button (between 3 and 11 times) it eventually accepts the password and connects to the wifi - I've tried deleting the network and then adding, have deleted the password and reentered it in the keychain.

If I put the MacBook to sleep for any length of time then restart it, once again it forgets the password and I have to go through the whole ritual again.

I'm not having any problems with my iPad, iPhone and recently purchased Nexus 7 (sorry Apple but I need StreetView & YouTube) which all automatically connect.

This issue has been going on for months now. As for OS Lion, well it was running 10.7.4 but I updated it today to 10.7.5 to see if that fixes the problem but it's had no effect.

The MacBook connects flawlessly at home so am not sure what is causing the grief.

Anyone have a clue what is causing this and how to fix it.

Just want to say I'm having the same problem. Had my Macbook Pro for nearly a year. No problem up until about 3 weeks ago, when I started having trouble connecting to wifi. Suddenly, almost daily, have been asked for a password in order to connect and then getting "invalid password" on typing it in, when it's definitely correct. Now, I haven't been able to connect for two or three days. All my other devices can connect, without problem (PC, iPhones, iPads). It was shortly after I changed my hub for a BTHub5 that the problem started, so don't know if that's the issue. It did initially connect, and does every now and again, which makes it confusing. I'm not overly familiar with Macs, this being my first one, so am worried about changing settings which could make things worse - and forgetting where I started. Have tried pressing shift, control and option together with power key (as suggested elsewhere), to no avail. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

I have the same problem - the computer used to reconnect if I restarted it, but now nothing I do can make it connect. I have the right password - other machines can connect with it - but the macs insist it's the wrong password. I've tried everything. I can't use my expensive computers and this is a disaster - I run a social media company and without my computers I can't make a paycheck.

FIx it, and fix it now!

This has been happening to me with the BT Home Hub 5 too. Even after I had it replaced. Resetting the homehub clears it until the next time the macbook sleeps. It's quite an old macbook too (on Mavericks) so the problem seems to be widespread.

Whether this turns out to be an Apple or BT problem is impossible to tell but it seems like it's the homehub that's actively rejecting the authentication attempt. I can connect to the open "FON" network fine so I suspect it's in the WPA2 code somewhere. Chances of getting BT to look into this are slim. Even if it's possible, the idea of explaining this to one of their "technical support" fills me with dread.

In my case, I have been having this problem the last two weeks, while I have been traveling. I have blamed BT for lots of things but can't claim its their fault here as I am in France . . .

Initially, I had given up and was using my wife's computer but then she needed it so I figured I would try again, despite my conviction that it was an airport problem. When I did, I got a new message stating that another device was using my IP address (a message my wife had received some few weeks previously on a different set of devices). Anyway, after renewing my DHCP lease, it worked! That was 2 days ago. Then, this morning, it conked out on my while I was actively using the computer. No new message about IP address but I did the same thing (about 10 times) and eventually it has come back on - after telling my that the password was invalid the first 9 times. I don't think that it was a DHCP issue but rather that it is an intermittent problem that eventually has resolved itself. The other thing that I did was update my Phone to iOS8.

I sincerely hope that this does not continue as it is a royal pain!

No and it is maddening. I went to the Apple Store in NY to get it fixed.

The first fix led to the airport shutting down later that day. Second fix

restored airport but have had the same problem since I got home. It

appears to be WPA related and they don't have a WPA network at the store.

I too have the BT Home Hub 5 and had the invalid password problem - Macbook Air Late 2010.

I found the problem (for me at least) to be that on the hub in Advanced settings->Wireless->5ghz I have the 2.4ghz and 5ghz synced using the same wireless SSID. If I keep them separate, I can connect to the 2.4ghz without problems. When I try to connect to the 5ghz network (using a different SSID) it says invalid password (even though it's not) 99% of the time.

Hope this helps some of you.

Hi everyone,

I had the same problem... and the comment above helped me. See this response over at the BT forums which gives instruction on how to fix it.

https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-Broadband-Queries/Macbook-Pro-Bt-HomeHub-Wifi- Connection-Issues/m-p/1259881#M88059

Essentially, the BT Hub 5 (and possibly other routers too) combine the 2 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies into one wifi network. If you log in to your router and split the frequencies into two networks, then connect to one or the other (my MacBook Pro would only connect to the 2GHz).

Of course, if you're trying to connect to someone else's network then the steps outlined at the link above may not be possible.

Hope this helps.
