Album art not shown in finder

Embedded album art in audio files is not shown in finder since I upgraded to ML (worked fine in SL).

Other peaple report a solution of the problem with elimination of Voice Memos. But in my case this is not evident because I do not have Voice Memos.

Does somebody know the solution of the problem?

I was having an issue with some thumbnails not showing in finder for random albums that I added to iTunes. I confirmed the artwork was embedded in the file and spent a few days searching the forums, but not finding any easy fixes. Then while in Finder, I stumbled onto a fix that has work for all of my files that wouldn't show thumbnails in Finder.

Go to Finder and while in the folder for the album that's not showing artwork in the thumbnails, select "Show View Options" and adjust the "Icon Size" slider to a larger size. I select the 104 x 104 notch on the slider. The icons refresh and show the artwork as the thumbnail. You can reduce the size of the icons after the artwork appears and finder will continue to show the artwork as the thumbnail, as log as you don't go too small.

I know this comes kind of late but I recently had the same issue and I found this thread which did not help me. However, I found a solution by myself.

First of all, I used the open source program KID3 for tagging music files and setting album artworks. As in your case, the Finder did not show any preview of my set artwork. Then I changed the text encoding of the artwork file name to ISO-8859-1 (aka Latin-1). Suddenly I could see all my album artwork correctly across all other OSX apps.

Hence, my educated guess would be that OSX Finder and some other programs except the file names to be in a certain encoding style in order to be correctly read. Therefore, I suggest the following solution:

Download KID3 or some similar tagging tool and adjust the text encoding of all files. It is an open source program and free to use. Then the actual repair fix is very easy. You open the files with KID3, mark them, and click on Tools -> Apply Text Encoding. You may have to change the default text encoding in the app's preferences but mine was fine from the beginning (until I changed it to UTF8).

This seems to be a common problem and I think the resolution depends are a few variables.

iTunes 12.5.3.17

Method 1

If iTunes CANNOT download album art then you should add it yourself.

- Find an album .jpg or take a screenshot and save it under the iTunes/Album Artwork folder

- Go to iTunes and select all songs in album and Get Info, go to Album Artwork tab and add the image you just saved.

- Be sure there is a green check in upper left corner on album art thumbnail. Even if you see the image in the main window, you have to click on it to enable.

Method 2

If you get iTunes to find the album art and it is showing in iTunes, but not as a thumbnail in Finder.

- Got to iTunes, Select all songs in album, Right click and select Get Info.

- Go to Album Artwork tab. If you see the album artwork you must click on it in the main window. You will then notice a green check appear on the thumbnail in the upper left corner. Click Ok.

Then go to Finder and verify that the thumbnails have updated. This worked for me. This is the first time I've seen this process, but it's also rare that I manually add music to iTunes outside of iTunes Store.

I hope this helps someone.
